We have been a fan of John Palmer ever since his book, "How to Brew" hit our shelves way back when. After meeting him at a few gatherings here and there, and after recommending his book hands down over any other, we decided to try and add John to our Signature Series line-up. When he agreed, we knew we would get something special from him, and he did not disappoint. John describes his kit as: "a smooth, copper lager that strikes the perfect balance between a toasty sweet malt body and the noble overtures of the hops. This interpretation of the Vienna style has more hop flavor dancing around the edges than the current BJCP guidelines specify, but the hop profile really complements the rich malt palate for a lively complexity that you don't get from the hoppier Bohemian Pilsener or maltier Oktoberfest styles, and is richer and smoother than Dortmunder Export." If you're looking for a new session IPA to obsess over, look no further! We recently changed this recipe slightly, making all finishing hops Centennial (rather than a blend between Centennial and HBC-342). We made sure to keep the Simcoe® dry hop though, as we felt this really brought a "pop" to the aroma!
While the general rule of thumb has been "one or two IPAs and you're feeling it", at just under 5%, we like to think of this beer as a hop lovers dream. The type of IPA that you can open up at noon, get the grill going, and forget worrying about how you're going to feel after drinking 8% IPAs for a few hours! (Yes, we know that feeling too...)
A half pound of corn sugar helps this one finish out nice and dry, while a small amount of acidulated malt will help make those hops pop. The clean bitterness of Warrior® balances perfectly with a slightly sweet malt profile, all topped off with a white, frothy head thanks to the wheat malt.

BRY-97 gives you a quick start and vigorous fermentation, which can be completed in 4 days if kept above 63° F. Liquid Gold! So smooth for a beer with an alcohol by weight of 7%! It leaves lots of classic phenolic flavor, but produces a very soft body without a high alcohol bite. Not that bitter, this golden beer is about a strong and complex malt body. It may take a goblet or two to grow on you, but once you acquire the taste.... some would say "beervana." The malt extract for this kit is made entirely from German Pilsner Malt, giving it that classic European flavor.

Dial your brew day up to 11 with the BrewBuilt™ Boil Vigor Controller! This controller allows you to control the current of a 208-240V heating element up to 30 amps. Perfect for dialing in your boil vigor for more consistent boil-off rates or adjusting the heat input to a still wash pot. The controller works by adjusting the percentage of power delivered to the heating element. The power is increased in a linear fashion from 0 to 100% as you adjust the dial from 1 to 11. Features industrial-style power switch, dial knob, and digital amm meter mounted on a splash resistant stainless steel enclosure. Pre-cut mounting holes allow you to hang the controller on your brew stand on the wall at eye-level. We highly recommend mounting the controller so you don't have to worry about keeping an area of your table dry where you might lay it down. L6-30 connections with 4 ft. cords on either end. Compatible with all 208-240V elements 30 amps and lower. While L6-30 are the most common elements available, yours may need an adapter.
The Boil Vigor Controller uses a generously overrated SSR with a very large fan-cooled heatsink for better reliability. An SSR's life expectancy is directly related to its operating temperature, and this unit is built with the lowest Q heat dissipation system offered at the homebrewing level. It includes a contactor to fully shut off both legs when you throw the power switch, making the free end of the cord safer when the element is not plugged in. The display gives you a reading of the actual current being consumed by your element in Amps. On some systems, a small change in the adjustment makes a large current change at the element, especially at lower settings used during hop stands and distillation. The BrewBuilt controller provides a linear control and a digital readout to eliminate the guessing, allowing you to focus on your process and not your equipment.

A solenoid for cooling (Ø4.5mm - 34mm or 1.5") with 2-pin LP12 cable and DIN43650 Type A adapter or a submersible pump (comes with cable). A ball clamp and a connecting rod. An airlock for the pressure out solenoid valve is recommended. For smaller tanks we recommend our polycarbonate airlock. For larger tanks (300L+) you should use a TC34mm to 12mm barb and a 10x16mm silicone tube or equivalent. Tri-Clamps and gaskets. Based on your tank and setup, you may need some extra tri-clamps or gaskets. For MiniUni+, you need to replace the Mini Spunding valve with an M24 to Tri Clamp adapter and a 90 degree TC34mm elbow to fit your spunding assembly (if you want to use our TC air lock. No need for elbow if you use tubing as airlock). Remember clamps/gaskets. If you don't have a Brewtools Unitank, we recommend getting a TC 1.5" to 34mm adapter for the spunding setup. You will also need a 34mm Tri-Clamp and 34mm gasket. Tees and crosses are also available in multiple sizes to give you more ports. Setting Up the FCS for Your Tank Mounting To mount to your tank a ball clamp and a connecting rod are very useful. This will work with most any size or style tank. Solenoid Valve & Related Connection Hardware for Cooling For Brewtools tanks that use 34mm connection you will need a Ø4.5mm - 34mm solenoid valve. For BrewBuilt, Spike, Ss BrewTech, or Commercial tanks you will need a TC 1.5" to 34mm adapter and 1.5" TC Solenoid Valve. Either way, you will need a 2-pin LP12 cable and DIN43650 Type A adapter to connect the solenoid valve to the Brewtools FCS I/O Module. Would You Like a Visible Air Lock on the Spunding Valve? The Brewtools pressure relief solenoid spunding valve releases CO2 at the set point you choose on your controller. To visually see the CO2 release, adding on an airlock for the pressure out solenoid valve is a nice option. For tanks under 300L, we recommend the 34mm polycarbonate airlock that connects to the Brewtools Solenoid Valve. For tanks larger than 300L, you should use a blowoff. For blowoffs, use a TC34mm to 12mm barb and a 10x16mm silicone tube or equivalent ran into a bucket of water. You will also need a 34mm Tri-Clamp and 34mm gasket. Tees and crosses are also available in multiple sizes to give you more ports. For the MiniUni+ For MiniUni+, you need to replace the Mini Spunding Valve with an M24 to TC adapter and a 90-degree 34mm TC elbow to fit your spunding assembly (if you want to use the TC air lock. No need for elbow if you use tubing for a blowoff). You will need the clamps/gaskets to make the connection. This unique tri-clamp fitting works perfectly for whirlpooling hops at the end of the boil and doubles as kettle maximizer when transferring out to your fermenter. When recirculating wort through the bottom port, wort will be returned to flow along the kettle wall for a more efficient whirlpool effect, drawing vegetal matter into the center of your kettle. When transferring wort out, the fitting will then pull from the side of the kettle where matter has been cleared, and by angling the end of the tube downwards, you'll be able to pull liquid from below the depth of your kettle's bottom port without the need to tip your vessel.

This tri-clamp spunding valve provides professional-level accuracy for fermenting under pressure. Attach to any pressurizable stainless steel conical with 1.5" TC ports and set your desired blow-off pressure. A pressure gauge sits in-line from the conical to the spunding valve so you can reference the current pressure inside your vessel at any time. The polycarbonate cylinder that surrounds the spunding valve can be filled with water or sanitizer to keep your tank 100% sanitary throughout the fermentation process.

Bourbon Belle takes the beautifully complex flavor of Brunch Stout and adds a charming southern drawl. Similar to "All Out", this recipe combines a variety of dark malts, cacao nibs, and ground coffee for a remarakably rich flavor profile, and then adds a little giddy-up with an addition of bourbon-soaked oak chips. The oak chips are added to simulate the barrel-aging process used for making Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout®, or "KBS". You wouldn't expect a foal to win the Triple-Crown, so practice patience when brewing Bourbon Belle. We recommend a conditioning period of 2 to 6 months to allow this beer to fully mature before entering the race.

The Artisan Hops® Hop Shot is an easy way to boost IBUs without adding vegetal matter to your beer. This CO2 hop extract is made from 100% Centennial hops, which will impart a slight citrus, floral character to your beer. 1 mL boiled in 5 gallons of 1.050 wort for 60 minutes will add approximately 9 IBUs.

This Scotch Ale recipe is a huge, malty beer with a deep rich copper color. Scotch Ales have a flavor a little reminiscent of single malt Scotch with smoky overtones and roasted flavors. With a 1.075 to 1.080 starting gravity and 24 IBU of bitterness, it is distinctly malty, but not cloying like some Scotch Ale recipes. Scotch Ale strains typically ferment well down to 60 degrees and leave behind very few esters or fruity flavors, emphasizing the malt.

A great way to add body and head retention to your homebrew. Used especially for stouts, flaked barley can be used across practically all beer styles and is an essential adjunct to have around the brewhouse.
Use as an adjunct in all-grain brews to produce a lighter colored finished beer without lowering the original gravity. The flakes can be incorporated directly into your mash with other grains because they have a large surface area and are pre-cooked so they hydrate and disintegrate quickly. They can be used in place of corn as an adjunct to eliminate corn flavor in the finished beer.

A food-grade six gallon plastic bucket perfect for all kinds of home beer or winemaking activities. Plastic buckets are often used as a fermenter, bottling bucket, or even sanitizer bucket. We go through thousands which helps keep our price down. If you want to use it as a fermenter you will also need to pick up the optional lid, stopper, and airlock. This bucket is also available in a version that includes a spigot (see recommended products below).
If you use this plastic bucket for fermentation be sure to use care when cleaning. Do not use any abrasive pads that would scratch. Once you get a scratch in a plastic bucket it is very hard to sanitize. This is also why we don't recommend storing equipment in a bucket between uses as a fermenter. A hot PBW soak is often a perfect way to clean a bucket, followed by a Star San soak for killing bacteria.
