LME is a viscous liquid, similar in consistency to maple syrup. In addition to being the more affordable option, many brewers find LME easier to handle than dry extract. DME is more condensed and comes in a powder format that is similar to baking flour. Although it’s a little more costly, DME is naturally lighter in color and stays fresher for longer. We highly recommend DME when brewing light colored beers.

He says "It is a like a Black and Tan" with a honey flavor of course. The beer does not taste like a true stout but is very far from being a Pale Ale. The continually positive response of "wow" from friends and other MoreBeer! customers prompted us to make his unique combination as his own kit, Honey-Stout. Thank you Jason for reminding us that when it comes to beer flavor, there are no rules. Jason recommends English yeast, WLP002. • Low stock! Kit (Extract) - Pacific Coast Pilsner - PLACEHOLDER Kit (Extract) - Pacific Coast Pilsner - PLACEHOLDER

Pacific Coast Pilsner | West Coast Pilsner | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract

    2 reviews

West Coast Pilsner combines the crisp, refreshing crushability of a Pilsner with the hoppy wallop of a West Coast IPA Includes Citra®, Amarillo®, Riwaka, and Mosaic® hops Estimated ABV: 5.4% Estimated IBUs: 30 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer The lines between clean, crushable lagers and hop-forward IPAs continue to blur at breweries and taprooms across the country. Whether it’s a hoppy lager or a Cold IPA that’s flying out of the tap handle, one thing is certain: craft beer drinkers love the combination of a crisp, refreshing lager with the heaps of new world hop character that you’d expect from a modern IPA. Pacific Coast Pilsner is our take on one of the styles within this ever-rising sub category of beers—the West Coast Pilsner. The malt bill consists of nearly 100% pilsner malt extract for a super-clean base and bright straw color in the glass. And now for the West Coast spin. Rather than a dash of noble hops, this recipe includes a healthy addition of Pacific Northwest and Southern Hemisphere hops in the boil, whirlpool, and dry hopping. The end result is a true “best of both worlds” beer. Light and easy-drinking, not too bitter, and teeming with citrusy, tropical hop character. Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity:1.045-50 SRM (Color Range): 3 IBUs: 30 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 5.4%   Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. E.J. Phair Brewing Company King Ghidorah IPA | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

    4 reviews

This BrewMaster Series kit was developed in collaboration with the brewmasters at E.J. Phair Brewing Company  A clean malt profile with very low bitterness and packed with hop aroma from multiple dry hop additions Includes Citra®, Multihead, Idaho Gem™, and Cashmere hops Estimated ABV: 6.6% Estimated IBUs: 11 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Bow down and tremble homebrewer, for you are in the presence of a king! This 30-story tall liquid kaiju will singe your senses with multiple Multihead additions, culminating in a tropical gravity beam blast of guava and melon. Survive this opening assault and you’ll be hit with an Idaho Gem™ thunder spark of pineapple, and then swept away by hurricane winds of Cashmere lemon/lime and stone fruit. Just as King Ghidora is not limited to a single ferocious maw, you’ll be hard-pressed to have but a single pour of this juicy, tropical brew. Without a ragtag ensemble of advorseries spearheaded by Godzilla himself, King G will reign over your beer rotation till he ultimately brings about the Earth’s next extinction-level event and moves on to another planet victim. King Ghidora was brewed in collaboration with our Pittsburg, CA neighbors, E.J. Phair Brewing Company. It features a clean grist of 3 unique base malts, with a touch of white wheat for head retention and a dash of acidulated malt to lower pH. With only a quarter ounce of Citra® added late in the boil, this beer shows very little bitterness and lets the flavor and aroma hops do the talking. The first dry hop addition is added to the fermenter before transferring wort from the kettle. Although this isn't a Hazy IPA, the beer will have a slight permanent haze due to biotransformation, which occurs when yeast interact with hop oils during primary fermentation. Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.061 SRM (Color Range): 4 IBUs: 11 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 6.6% Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. Not-So-Common Common | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract

    13 reviews

A modern take on the traditional California Common beer style Includes Northern Brewer and Norcoe blend hops Estimated ABV: 4.3% Estimated IBUs: 38-43 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer A modern twist on an American classic! California Common is a unique beer style dating back to the days of the California Gold Rush, when brewers on the west coast incorporated caramel malts and additional hop character into their lager beers, helping mask the effects of warmer fermentation owing to a lack of available refrigeration. The resulting beer was a jack-of-all-trades: malty and full-bodied enough for a winter evening, but also hoppy and dry enough for the hottest California afternoon. Here at MoreBeer! we love the classics, and Cal Common is no exception. But we’re a long way from 1849 and it’s time to give this classic, nearly forgotten beer style a chance to step into the modern age. To do that, we’ve combined the Northern Brewer hops that typify California Common with the Simcoe® hops that are so prevalent in today’s California IPAs, creating our first ever hop blend, “Norcoe.” The resulting beer is still a delicious jack-of-all-trades, but with a hop profile that’s at the same time common, and not Common at all! Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.040-1.048 SRM (Color Range): 9 IBUs: 38-43 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 4.0-4.6% Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. So whether you have been to the East or just feel like someone has given you the third degree, this fine ale will deliver what you are looking for. • Kit (Extract) - Sorry Aboot Brunch Stout - PLACEHOLDER	Kit (Extract) - Sorry Aboot Brunch Stout - PLACEHOLDER

Sorry Aboot Brunch Stout | Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout® Clone | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract

    1 review

Inspired by Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout®, this kit combines our All Out Brunch Stout recipe with an addition of maple syrup and Canadian whiskey-soaked oak chips Includes Nugget and Willamette hops Estimated ABV: 7.5% Estimated IBUs: 60 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Only a hoser would pass up the chance to brew a stout influenced by the Great White North. Similar to "All Out", this recipe combines a variety of dark malts, cacao nibs, and ground coffee for a remarkably rich flavor profile, and then takes it to new vistas with an addition of maple syrup and Canadian whiskey-soaked oak chips. The maple syrup and oak chips are added to simulate the barrel-aging process used for making Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout®, or "CBS". The result is a deeply complex stout that would have Bob and Doug McKenzie swearing off Elsinore beer after one sip. Not to cause a kerfuffle, but patience is key when brewing Sorry Aboot Brunch Stout. We recommend conditioning the beer for 2 to 6 months after the oak chips are added. Best enjoyed in your favorite tuque with a box of Timbits. Please note: this recipe calls for 2 oz of Kona and Sumatra coffee grounds, 16 oz of Maple Syrup, and 1 cup of Canadian Whiskey, which are not included in the kit. Our clone recipe of Sierra Nevada's Hop Hunter IPA a tasty, easy drinking and highly aromatic beer spiked with El Dorado hop oil Includes Bravo™, Cascade, Crystal, and Simcoe® hops Estimated ABV: 6.2% Estimated IBUs: 60 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Hop Hunter IPA by Sierra Nevada brewing is the inspiration for this delicious recipe.  Hop Gatherer is a Hop Hunter clone, which contains all of the same ingredients as the original beer, but gives you the option of what distilled oil you would like to use.  We offer the kit with either Chinook or El Dorado farm distilled hop oil.  Either way, this makes a tasty, easy drinking and highly aromatic IPA! A bit about farm distilled hop oil: Distilled immediatley after picking, farm distilled hop oil gives you the bursting aroma provided by fresh hops.  By distilling the oil at the farm, the distinct character of a "wet hop" beer is able to be replicated year round.  The oil can be added post fermentation, typically at bottling.  You can even add the oil directly to your glass! Be careful, it is VERY POTENT! Light in color and incredibly smooth, this IPA is enjoyed by all. Not too bitter, but absolutely hoppy enough to please the biggest hop head! • Kit (Extract) - Heavenly Haze Single Hop - Riwaka - PLACEHOLDER Kit (Extract) - Heavenly Haze Single Hop - Riwaka - PLACEHOLDER

Riwaka™ Heavenly Haze Single Hop Hazy IPA | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract

    3 reviews

Our single-hop Hazy IPA series dedicated to expressing the newest hops when they hit the scene Includes 100% Riwaka™ hops from boil, to whirlpool, to dry hopping Riwaka™ Flavor/Aroma: Citrusy grapefruit, kumquat Estimated ABV: 6.7% Estimated IBUs: 32 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Heavenly Haze is our series of single-hop Hazy IPAs. Whenever a hip new hop hits the scene, we're as excited to brew with it as you are! We developed Heavenly Haze to use a straight-forward hazy IPA malt bill as a base that's shared between all Heavenly Haze recipe kits—the only thing that changes is your hop of choice! This allows you to really zero in on the different flavors and aromas of one particular hop, and it's how we recommend experiencing a new hop you haven't brewed with before. We'll continue to expand our Heavenly Haze series to include newly released hops that are perfect for NEIPAs, as well as circle back to include some of our favorite hazy hops that have long been available. The kiwis keep it coming with yet another hop varietal that's bursting with character. Riwaka™ varietal 85-6-23 was originally bred by New Zealand Hops by crossing Saaz with specially developed breeding selections. The result was a highly aromatic hop with almost double the oil content of its parent Saaz. Realesed in 1997, this was once an exceedingly difficult hop to get your hands on outside of New Zealand, as it was quickly bought up by the native brewers. With an almost 1:1 alpha to beta acids ratio, this rockstar aroma hop gives off strong notes of citrusy grapefruit and kumquat. Perfect for new world pale ales, IPAs, hoppy lagers, and any beer you want a bold fruity hop character to shine. Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.061-66 SRM (Color Range): 4-5 IBUs: 15 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 6.7% Liquid Malt Extract (LME) vs. Dried Malt Extract (DME) MoreBeer! recipe kits are offered in both Liquid Malt Extract and Dry Malt Extract so that our customers can choose the format that best suits their needs and brewing style. Riwaka™ is a trademark owned by New Zealand Hops Limited Company

This BrewMaster Series kit was scaled down to a homebrew batch size in collaboration with the brewmasters at Skyscraper Brewing Company A delicious wheat beer with a pleasant honey sweetness Includes Willamette and Saaz hops Estimated ABV: 4.7% Estimated IBUs: 21-26 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Phil Sutton, owner and head brewer at Skyscraper Brewing Company, was in our local homebrew club, D.O.Z.E. After taking the American Brewers Guild program, he realized brewing was what he wanted to do, and left NorCal to head down south and open up Skyscraper. Phil says, "I started out, like everyone, as a homebrewer. Living in Salt Lake City in 1999, I got sick of paying $13 for a six pack of Sam Adams, and some homebrewer friends got me started with my first batch, a hybrid Bohemian Pilsner that was fantastic! When I got sick of my job writing software, I attended the American Brewers Guild program, worked for BJ's for a year, and then struck out on my own." Most of you have probably already seen the brewery in a certain cellular phone ad, where two guys are trying to sell beer - the guy on the forklift was Phil himself! His Bulldozer Hefe is Phil's flagship beer, and he was kind enough to let us in on the recipe. Next time you are in Southern California, be sure to put Skyscraper on your list of must-visits! Ron Mexico Pale Ale | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

When we first got our hands on experimental hop HBC 438 (nicknamed Ron Mexico and now known as Sabro™) we couldn't wait to design a recipe around it Includes Magnum and Sabro™ hops Estimated ABV: 4.6% Estimated IBUs: 53-57 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer The next hot hop? This delicious Pale Ale is based on new experimental hop, HBC438, that has the unofficial name of  Ron Mexico due to its native US neomexicanus  hop heritage. This hop has enticing aromas of stone and tropical fruit, orange, mint, and herbal characteristics.  Vinnie from Russian River Brewing (of Pliny fame) used this hop in an experimental beer brewed for the National Homebrewers Conference and also recently raved about this hop in a talk we attended. The story of this hop is really unique. Traditionally hop breeders finish the testing of experimental hops internally and then release to the commercial market. Now they are turning the tables and trying something new!  HBC 438 is being released EXCLUSIVELY to the Homebrewing community first. Then in the future, as more is grown, they will release it to commercial brewers. So the tables are flipped - Pro brewers will be reading your reviews and seeing what you thought of the hottest new hop.  What is also cool is that all proceeds from the sales of these hops go to ALS.net and help fund the ALS Therapy Development Institute, the world's largest non-profit biotech focused entirely on ALS Research.  Our take on a Ron Mexico pale includes some acid malt and carapils for body, crystal 60 for color and richness, and Rahr Two-Row for a great malty base. Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.045-1.049 SRM (Color Range): 6-8 IBUs: 53-57 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 4.5-4.7% Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. Odiferous Brown Holiday Brew by Kyle | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract

Our Signature Series kits offer a selection of crazy, unique beers developed by MoreBeer! customers, associates, and homebrewing legends! This recipe makes a delicious brew with big body, rich malt, and a complex spice blend of All-Spice, Cloves, Nutmeg, Saigon Cinnamon, and Ginger Includes Perle and Northern Brewer hops Estimated ABV: 6.8% Estimated IBUs: 23-27 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer A few years age we had a competition in our Concord showroom for the best Holiday Beer. The winner was an unknown brewer named Kyle Sommers. We actually hired Kyle following the competition to work in our customer service office(see where good homebrew will get you!) In 2010 Kyle graduated from the Siebel Institute to continue his dream of becoming a professional Brewmaster. He is now brewing at Lagunitas We loved the big body, rich malt, and the extremely complex spice blend. When we went to make the recipe for sale we thought twice because we had to buy out the spice section of our local grocer. Spices include small amounts of All-Spice, Cloves, Nutmeg, Saigon Cinnamon, and Ginger. Based on a Northern English style Brown Ale, it has 6 different spices added at two different times in the brewing and fermentation process, resembling and inspired by a Belgian-style winter beer. This winter warmer will make your kitchen smell like Thanksgiving Day at Grandma's house. With some added Belgian brown sugar to counter-balance the spice and add some alcohol content, this is a great way to top off your Holiday adventures by the fireside. If you are a firm believer in the Reinheitsgebot (no spices, sugar, etc.), this is not the beer for you! Kyle suggests using White Labs English Ale yeast, WLP002 Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.066-70 SRM (Color Range): 21 IBUs: 23-27 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 6.8%   Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. • Low stock! Kit (All Grain) - American Honey Porter - PLACEHOLDER Kit (All Grain) - American Honey Porter - PLACEHOLDER

American Honey Porter | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

    3 reviews

The classic porter character of roast and coffee is beautifully balanced by a pleasant bitterness and a slight nutty taste and subtle honey flavor Includes Chinook and Cascade hops Estimated ABV: 6% Estimated IBUs: 31-34 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer In 2011, the White House home brewed beer for the first time in, well, perhaps centuries! We were super were excited when a MoreBeer! customer first submitted his freedom of information act request for the White House homebrew recipes. We were a little surprised, and we'll say it - let down - when we saw the actual recipes. One MoreBeer! staffer blurted out "Whoa...this seems like beer that Prince Harry should be brewing." English malt extract, English hops, and even an English yeast strain were used; so the only thing truly American was the honey! It seems that we were not the only beer lovers to pick up on this. So while we really, really love English beers as much as the next homebrewer, we think the White House Brewmasters should be using fresh ingredients from well...America. Since we were tweaking the recipe towards this side of the pond, we decided we could also help educate the White House staff on their yeast selection. Yes dry yeast has gotten better but since it's for the White House and all, we think they can spring for liquid yeast...and is there any better choice for this recipe than Wyeast 1056 AMERICAN Ale or White Labs 001 California Ale?? Not really. In fact, just queue up the star spangled banner, turn on the football game, and throw some hot dogs on the grill because we are starting to feel pretty patriotic here. So while we send this kit along with our friendly suggestions back to the White House, YOU can make the exact same beer at home. That way if you are in a diner somewhere on the campaign trail and the president pulls up you can whip out a bottle of the 'Honey Pale the White House Should Be Making' or the 'Honey Porter the White House Should Be Making' and enlighten the Top Dog, homebrewer style. This American Honey Porter is composed of all American ingredients, including: Crystal 40L, Black Patent, Chocolate Malt, and Domestic 2-Row Chinook and Cascade Hops California Wildflower Honey This is an amazingly drinkable porter recipe which will have you coming back for more!  The classic porter character of roast and coffee is beautifully balanced by a pleasant bitterness and a slight nutty taste.  This is a beer which will be fantastic fresh, and even better if you can keep your hands off long enough to let it age!  The honey character is nearly buried under the porter character, but provides an interesting and refreshing spin on the classic porter! • Kit (All Grain) - White Koji Ale - Proper Sake - PLACEHOLDER Kit (All Grain) - White Koji Ale - Proper Sake - PLACEHOLDER

Proper Sake Co. White Koji Ale | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

    1 review

This BrewMaster Series kit was scaled down to a homebrew batch size in collaboration with the brewmasters at Proper Sake Co. An incredibly crushable light pale ale made with White Koji. Refreshing and citrusy Includes Cascade and Huell Melon hops Estimated ABV: 5.5% Estimated IBUs: 12 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Whether you're in constant search of new ways to push the "traditional boundaries" of brewing, or you're just looking for another crushable crowd pleaser to add to your arsenal of recipes, Proper Sake's White Koji Ale is the beer for you. As the name implies, this recipe is crafted around the specialty ingredient of White Koji. Koji is a staple ingredient in the fermentation processes for sake, soy sauce, miso, and more. But White Koji, in particular, is gaining ground as a new brewing ingredient which can impart a beautiful citric acidity in the final beer. This recipe from Proper Sake Co. results in an incredibly crushable light pale ale with a slight haze in the glass. The malt character will hang in the background as Cascade and Huell Melon support the overall refreshing, citrusy quality enhanced by the White Koji. Our friends at Proper Sake Co. are specialists in Kimoto and Yamahai sake production—and have been known to apply their fermentation knowledge to a beer or two. Next time you find yourself in Nashville, TN, pop into Rice Vice bar to sample from their amazing selection of sake. Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.052-57 SRM (Color Range): 4 IBUs: 12 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 5.5% Please note: Your printed recipe sheet may reference 20 oz of White Koji in the "Recipe Tips" section. Phantasm Hazy DIPA | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

Our Phantasm Powder hazy recipes are bursting with a tropical bouquet complimented by a choice selection of New Zealand and Pacific Northwest hops Includes Mosaic®, Amarillo®, Cascade, Talus®, Vic Secret, Strata, Idaho 7®, Riwaka™, and Sabro™ hops Estimated ABV: 8.2% Estimated IBUs: 42 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer If you're hearing ghostly tales whispered around your local homebrew shop, there's no need to pile your brew crew into the hippy van—this one is no mystery. Phantasm Powder has been causing quite a stir on the craft beer scene, and the buzz is well deserved. Adding this powder to your wort and fermenting it with a thiolized yeast strain is one of the easiest ways to boost tropical flavor and aroma in your finished beer. Derived from Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc Grapes, this powder will add a concentrated dose of thiol precursors. During fermentation, yeast will go to work on these aroma compounds and "free the thiol", boosting the tropical bouquet of your beer to supernatural levels. We're stoked to get this cutting-edge ingredient into the hands of homebrewers so we designed a series of Phantasm recipe kits that will set you up to take full advantage of brewing with Phantasm Powder. Our Phantasm Hazy Double IPA includes 10 ounces of aroma hop additions from whirlpool to biotransformation to post fermentation, leaning on some choice New Zealand and American varietals and turns it up a notch with two additions of Cryo Hops® for an extra concentrated kick of hoppy goodness. Since this kit series is all about the thiols, we start with whole cone Mosaic in the mash to further increase the thiol precursors. Add the Phantasm Powder at flameout along with your whirlpool / hop stand additions. For maximum effect, we highly recommend choosing a thiolized yeast strain for fermentation which are specifically designed to boost thiol biotransformation. That way if you are in a diner somewhere on the campaign trail and the president pulls up you can whip out a bottle of the 'Honey Pale the White House Should Be Making' or the 'Honey Porter the White House Should Be Making' and enlighten the Top Dog, homebrewer style. This American Honey Porter is composed of all American ingredients, including: Crystal 40L, Black Patent, Chocolate Malt, and Ultralight Malt Extract Chinook and Cascade Hops California Wildflower Honey This is an amazingly drinkable porter recipe which will have you coming back for more! Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.054-59 SRM (Color Range): 26-28 IBUs: 31-34 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 6%   Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. To find our yeast recommendations, choose your preferred kit option above and then select the drop-down menu under “Yeast Options”.  For more info, click on the recommended yeast(s) below in the “You Might Also Need” section below. All included steeping grains will come milled.     Liquid Malt Extract (LME) vs. Dried Malt Extract (DME) MoreBeer! recipe kits are offered in both Liquid Malt Extract and Dry Malt Extract so that our customers can choose the format that best suits their needs and brewing style.

This BrewMaster Series kit was scaled down to a homebrew batch size in collaboration with the brewmasters at 21st Amendment An easy-drinking pale ale with few bittering hops but giant fistfuls of flavor and aroma hops Includes Cascade, Liberty, and Willamette hops Estimated ABV: 4.3% Estimated IBUs: 33-41 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Shaun is known for creating beers that are well-balanced while doing some unique things, such as using watermelon juice in a wheat beer, or oyster shells in an oatmeal stout. His Assistant brewer Jesse created this beer, an easy-drinking pale ale with few bittering hops but giant fistfuls of flavor and aroma hops. This beer has low alcohol and a soft malt backbone with an incredible hop finish - your answer to the hop shortage! Jesse and Shaun recommend using WLP001. Shaun O'Sullivan of the 21st Amendment, San Francisco, California Shaun's brewing career started like most in the beer industry - homebrewing. While working at a Southern California law firm, Shaun was spending his time making beers at home. After about 2 years, he not only decided that he wanted to make beer for a living, but that he wanted to open his own place! Shaun moved up to the SF Bay Area to start working at a few local breweries, while taking several brewing courses at UC Davis. Shaun eventually teamed up with his business partner Nicco Freccia, and together, they founded the 21st Amendment Brewery and Restaurant. They are one of the few breweries in the country leading the craft beer canning revolution, canning their "Brew Free or Die" IPA, and their "Hell or High Watermelon", which is an American-style Wheat beer brewed with real watermelon juice. When in San Francisco, visit Shaun at the brewery (563 2nd Street), which is just two blocks from Giants park.
