I love this kit, and have brewed it many times. This time I'm in the middle of the mash and I discover that whoever put the kit together forgot the Magnum Hops. Great...! Lucky for me my oldest son lives 20 minutes away and had Magnum Hops. But I expect more from More Beer. Use a checklist or something.
Brewed this using Imperial A04 yeast trying to stick to the Conan yeast strain - and Oh My!! This is one hell of a beer - I'd say (might going out on a limb here) THE BEST IPA I have brewed. A 7.7% ABV firmly DIPA, this is so crushable it's ridiculous - while I haven't managed to taste the real thing (yet), I'd brew this again. Caramel, hops, dank without being overly dank, lightly bitter (just enough) it is balanced and a great beer - cheers to Morebeer for creating this winner!! This won't last long in my keg?
If you follow the directions, you will be very pleased. A few of my friends sampled this and love it!. So far my favorite. If you like hops, this is the beer for you. No tasteless brew. Full of flavor.
Brewed this on our 35L Brewzilla. We live down in a tiny village in Baja Sur, Mexico where our only beer options are Tecate or Tecate Light. With such limited options, I'm brewing as often as possible. Our neighbors are cluing in and dropping by more often for a taste of chela artisinal. We couldn't wait for the beer to be fully carbonated and the beer tasted wonderful. So happy I went with this beer. Looking forward to sipping on a few of these after a long day at the beach!
Enjoying this very much right now!! I ordered this maybe a week into California’s S.I.P, took a while to get here but with C-19 I understand. I brewed this about a month ago, added an extra pound of flaked oats because I had em. RO water with 1/4tsp 10% phosp.acid per 5gal, 1tsp CaCl in my strike water. Pulled 5.75gal in the primaryPitched a home culture of Giga’s VIPA yeast, 68*F primary and let it get up to 72* around day 7 to 10, dry hopped in secondary for 4 days, bottled just under 5gal (lots of loss from dry hops) conditioned with dextrose.Sipping on a bottle now, it’s been 17 days now, cold crashed overnight,Great little head on it, a little darker than I’ve seen images of heady topper, but I did add an extra pound of flaked oats?? I’ve been attributing darkness in my hazys to dry hopping too long but idk? Flavor is killer, I’ve been making so many juicy NEIPA, it’s refreshing to have a nice bite balance to the fruit with the piney more dank flavors. Aromas aren’t as punctual as other recipes I’ve hit, but it’s very nice, slightly sweet malt carried by fruit notes, slight spice, the yeast plays nice with this one! I’ve only sampled heady topper once in the Bay Area so who knows what it is supposed to actually taste like? But this is a very nice IPA, with the mouthfeel desired in a NEIPA, id definitely recommend this to anyone who wants something crushable and packed with enough flavor and punch to satisfy the palate
What a great kit! One of my favorite morebeer recipe kits. Dangerously easy to drink, my abv was a little higher @ 9%. Will definitely keep this on the rotation!
Use hop bags or a hop spider etc. Lost a lot if wort because I didn't this time and decided to make up with water in fermenter which brought OG down. Smells awesome in the kettle. I'll see how it tastes in a few weeks.
I love this kit so much I think it will be in my regular rotation. I use the Gigiyeast Vermont IPA withIt, couldn't be happier.
I'm down to the last couple of glasses of this brew and have coveted every sip. The only augmentation I made to the kit was to add a pound of 40L grain to compensate mash efficiency since I batch sparge. It darkens the brew a tad and adds a slightly more robust flavor on the malt side. The hop schedule is more diverse than I've used in the past, but the results are nicely balanced and flavorful. This is a really good kit. Buy and try!
Full disclosure, I have only tried a sip of Heady Topper once before I really knew that much about it. I only had a sip so I have nothing to go on, but this clone makes one awesome double IPA! Nice balance of Malt with a juicy hops blast. A good mix of dank from the columbus and simcoe, pine-yness from the Centennial, and juiciness from the Amarillo. I prefer it to almost any other IPA I have ever brewed. I easily enjoy it as much as a fresh growler of Pliny the Elder I got from the Russian River Brewery and that's saying a lot!
