First thing I noticed was that the crush was consistent and had not much flour/dust, and the hulls were intact. This made for a smooth and uneventful sparge, and decent efficiency. I wish all kits were at least this good. One "mistake" I made was wringing out the specialty grain bags after the steep. This got a lot of flavor out of them, and perhaps that was too much. Granted, it's a nice toasty caramel flavor, but with my habit being to oversparge and boil down for maximum extraction, and this (higher initial boil gravity) resulting in slightly diminished hop bitterness utilization, the malts actually overpowered the hopping.Don't get me wrong; I'm very pleased with the results and look forward to sharing it with friends. I will say that what I got doesn't seem like an Arrogant Bastard clone. Just don't do what I do, and your results will be closer to what the kit designers intended.
