Take, for example, the extended range digital controller with an adjustable temperature range from 26 - 82°F. Chrome plated brass shank comes with a back nut, plastic collar, and a welded 3/16" nipple. This beer shank is a popular choice for building your own custom draft system. Typically installed in the door of a refrigerator or the wooden collar of a converted chest freezer.  The shank’s listed size refers to the total length of threaded pipe. Approximately 1-1/8” are needed to account for the thickness of the finishing collar on the front and the space for the locknut on the back.
