    1 review

OYL-090 offers a unique profile of lychee, pear, and tropical fruit cup and bolsters the sweet aromatics of modern IPAs Most expressive when fermented at 90°F+ but still reveals character at its lower temperature range Double pitch size with a minimum of 225 billion cells—twice the size of the standard yeast pitch Proprietary propagation methods generate fresh, metabolically strong yeast cells and optimal biomass Omega Yeast is founded on curiosity and innovation, expertly producing common workhorse varieties and many unique strains Espe Kveik from Omega offers a unique flavor profile of lychee, pear, and tropical fruit cup. It can bolster the sweet aromatics of modern IPAs, but is versatile enough for your house pale ale or exotic seasonal brews. Espe is traced back to the village of Grodås in Norway and has an exceptionally wide fermentation temperature range. It's most expressive when fermented at or above 90°F, but you'll still pick up its character when fermented at lower ale fermentation temps. Kveik refers to traditional Norwegian farmhouse brewing yeast that has been passed down from one generation to the next, literally being harvested and repitched for centuries. Over this long period of time, kveik developed certain characteristics that distinguish it from modern brewer's yeast. In general, kveik has a very high heat tolerance and will produce a consistent flavor profile across the fermentation temperature range. It's also a fast fermenter, highly flocculent, and has an above average alcohol tolerance. Attenuation: 75-80% Flocculation: Medium Alcohol Tolerance: 12% ABV Optimum Fermentation Temp: 68-98°F Cell Count: 225 Billion   Please Note: For best results we Always recommend ordering an Ice Pack with your liquid yeast. • Kveik Yeastery - K.1 Voss - PLACEHOLDER Kveik Yeastery - K.1 Voss - PLACEHOLDER

Kveik Yeastery | K.1 Voss | Multi-Strain Kveik Yeast | Dry Beer Yeast

Produces beers with dominant orange, tangerine, and citrus flavors, complemented by subtle notes of tropical fruit and a mild spiciness Multi-Strain Kveik Yeasts are original blends of kveik yeast cultures rather than isolated single-strain yeasts Ferments effectively across a broad spectrum (59-104°F), offering flexibility for various beer styles Achieves complete fermentation in as little as 72 hours at optimal temperatures (88-95°F), speeding up the brewing process Well-suited for a variety of beer styles, including farmhouse ales, IPAs, pale ales, and sours Voss multi-strain comes from Sigmund Gjernes in Voss. The flavor and aroma primarily stem from orange, tangerine, and citrus. Secondary flavors include tropical fruit and mild spiciness. Voss ferments well between 59-104°F and will ferment faster at higher temperatures. At an optimal temperature of 88-95°F, you can expect fermentation to take up to 72 hours. Voss is well-suited for farmhouse ales, IPAs, pale ales, and sours. The Voss kveik comes from Sigmund Gjernes in Voss, Norway. Voss is situated south of the Jostedal glacier. Voss was somewhat isolated from the larger cities, and most people were farming and self-sustained. People shared kveik mainly with each other, and because of the distance to other settlements, the kveik was rarely mixed with other types. The Voss kveik is unique in taste and aroma, much because of the great work done by Sigmund and others to preserve the yeast throughout the years. The Multi-Strain Difference Kveik Yeastery's unique multi-strain kveik yeasts capture the true essence of traditional Norwegian farmhouse brewing, delivering a depth of flavor and robust fermentation unmatched by single-strain alternatives. While other suppliers offer isolated kveik strains, Kveik Yeastery is the only source for authentic, dried multi-strain blends, providing brewers with the complex, nuanced profiles that define classic kveik. These diverse blends offer a superior brewing experience, unlocking the full potential of this remarkable yeast. Flavor and Aroma Primary flavors: Orange, tangerine and citrus Secondary flavors: Tropical fruit and mild spiciness The intensity is medium at high fermentation temperatures, and at lower temperatures, it will be less intense. Fermentation Voss ferments well from 59°F up to 104°F. The higher fermentation temperature, the faster fermentation. At the optimum temperature 88-95°F expect fermentation to finish in 72 hours. When fermentation is done at low temperatures you can expect fermentation time to increase. For high gravity beers, we recommend users to pitch two packs of yeast and add yeast nutrition to ensure a healthy fermentation. Pitching Pitch directly into wort by sprinkling it across the surface, or rehydrate yeast. For fermentation below 64°F, or high gravity, increase pitching rate to 2.25 g/Gal. One 7 g sachet treats 5 to 8 gallons of wort. One 300 g brewery pouch treats 8.5 bbl of wort.   Effective Fermentation Temp: 59-104°F Optimum Fermentation Temp: 88-95°F Flocculation: High Alcohol Tolerance: 13% ABV Attenuation: High

  • Yeast Starter Kit (500 ml)

Yeast Starter Kit - 500 mL

    5 reviews

500ml Erlenmeyer flask, 1/2lb light dried malt extract & 1oz Fermaid K (Yeast Nutrient). This starter kit is for growing liquid yeast starters. The idea is that the starter acts as a mini batch of beer where the yeast cells replicate before being pitched into your 5 gallon batch. More yeast means fermentation starts faster. The bacteria and wild yeast that got into your beer during the transfer from kettle to fermenter have less chance of creating a negative flavor impact upon your beer. (We do not recommend the use of an electric element with these flasks. If this cannot be avoided, we recommend using a larger pot as a hot water bath on the stove.) In the lab world, these flasks are known as "Student Grade". A great flask for making yeast starters!(Student grade is not the highest grade flasks and will have minor defects)

  • Wort Whipper Magnetic Stir Plate Wort Whipper Magnetic Stir Plate

Wort Whipper Super Compact Magnetic Stir Plate

    10 reviews

A magnetic stir plate is a great investment to help improve the quality of your yeast starters. Aeration is an important factor in making a yeast starter, and without a stir plate you'll need to pick up and swirl your starter by hand as often as possible. The stir plate is a simple solution that will continuously aerate your starter, leading to higher numbers of viable yeast. This compact stir plate works with Erlenmeyer flasks up to 5000mL in size. Depending on the volume of your yeast starter, you can use the adjustment knob to dial in the speed of the stir bar. We recommend using just enough power to keep yeast in suspension, a full vortex isn't really necessary. Stir bar included.   KegLand Part Number: KL05555

Put the lid back on and store in the refrigerator for your next batch! Like most English strains, this yeast produces malty beers. We get a velvety mouth feel on the palate and a hint of cherries and rose petals in the aroma. With the great attenuation this strain provides you can ferment almost any ale. We've used this in a strong scotch and the outcome was phenomenal. To ferment this yeast properly pitch at 64-66°F and let it rise to 66-68°F. Ferment for 10-14 days in the primary. Excellent for all English style ales including bitter, pale ale, porter, and brown ale. PurePitch® Next Generation—now with more yeast, get a foolproof fermentation without a starter! Just twist the cap & pitch! Why PurePitch Next Gen versus other options? Typically yeast manufacturers use a range for how many yeast cells are going into each package. This can vary widely, especially from strain to strain. Next Gen offers a far more precise cell count across all strains allowing you to use the Whitelabs exclusive pitch calculator. Simply scan the barcode on the back of each package to be taken to their online calculator. Enter the volume, strength, and pitching temperature of the wort you are fermenting and the calculator tells you exactly how much yeast to pitch. You will be fermenting like a professional brewer, using the same concentration of yeast every time and enjoying more consistent results. Don't need a full package? Put the lid back on and store in the refrigerator for your next batch. Whitelabs has also increased the viability (the number of living cells in the package) over the shelf life of the yeast. Next Gen strains are grown in their unique, small-batch reactors to assure freshness and then packaged in a special film that allows for off-gassing, assuring that their viability is absolutely industry leading. Attenuation: 67-74% Flocculation: High Alcohol Tolerance: 5-10% ABV Optimum Fermentation Temp: 65-70°F Cell Count: 150 Billion For best results we always recommend ordering an ice pack with your liquid yeast. Please Note: When choosing an ice pack option beware that the liquid yeast will not arrive cold even when shipped together. Ice packs and insulated mailing options are designed to keep the yeast colder for longer during shipment, but they will not ensure that your yeast arrives cold. We will not replace liquid yeast that arrives warm. During warmer months we strongly recommend you choose dry yeast.

With high gravity saisons, brewers may wish to dry the beer with an alternate yeast added after 75% fermentation. Known to be a slow starter. The trick to fermenting a Saison is to pitch at 66-68F and raise it 1-2 degrees per day until you get to 85F. Yes, that is correct...85F! This yeast is so moody that you have to keep giving it warmth towards the end because it gets lazy and wants to go to sleep. • Kveik Yeastery - K.9 Ebbegarden - PLACEHOLDER Kveik Yeastery - K.9 Ebbegarden - PLACEHOLDER

Kveik Yeastery | K.9 Ebbegarden | Multi-Strain Kveik Yeast | Dry Beer Yeast

Produces beers with dominant apple and pear flavors, complemented by subtle notes of tropical fruit and citrus Multi-Strain Kveik Yeasts are original blends of kveik yeast cultures rather than isolated single-strain yeasts Ferments effectively across a broad spectrum (59-100°F), offering flexibility for various beer styles Achieves complete fermentation in as little as 72 hours at optimal temperatures (88-95°F), speeding up the brewing process Perfect for IPAs Ebbegarden multi-strain originates from Ebbegarden farm in Stordal. The flavor and aroma primarily come from apple and pear, with secondary notes of tropical fruit and citrus. Ebbegarden ferments well between 15-38°C and will ferment faster at higher temperatures. At an optimal temperature of 31-35°C, you can expect fermentation to take up to 72 hours. Ebbegarden is perfect for IPAs. Ebbegarden kveik comes from Ebbegarden farm in Stordal, Norway. Ebbegarden has traditionally produced fruit, which is believed to be the source of the fruitiness in their kveik. During the Viking age, the mild climate made many Vikings settle down to fish and farm the land in Stordalen, and the first church was built in the 1100s. Beer and spirits were a big part of celebrations and gatherings for birth, confirmations and burials, and people made their own beer with kveik, especially for these gatherings. Flavor and Aroma Primary flavors: Apple and pear Secondary flavors: Tropical fruit and citrus The intensity is medium at high fermentation temperatures, and at lower temperatures, it will be less intense. Fermentation Ebbegarden ferments well from 59°F up to 100°F. Effective Fermentation Temp: 59-100°F Optimum Fermentation Temp: 88-95°F Flocculation: Medium Alcohol Tolerance: 16% ABV Attenuation: High

    Omega Yeast | OYL-501 Gulo® Ale | Beer Yeast | Double Pitch | 225 Billion Cells

    2 reviews

OYL-501 exhibits the flavor of Omega's Irish strain while providing the powerful attentuation of their French strain Expect orange-marmalade and peach character with a clean, brut-like finish Double pitch size with a minimum of 225 billion cells—twice the size of the standard yeast pitch Proprietary propagation methods generate fresh, metabolically strong yeast cells and optimal biomass Omega Yeast is founded on curiosity and innovation, expertly producing common workhorse varieties and many unique strains Gulo™ Ale is the latest creation to emerge from the curious minds of Omega's R&D team. The progeny of their Irish Ale and French Saison strains, this true genetic hybrid is a beast at devouring sugars, which creates a very dry beer without any of the peppery, clove phenolics associated with saisons and Belgian ales. Expect a citrus-forward aroma with hints of peach and a clean finish. Gulo™ Ale excels in any style where a high level of attenuation is desired without phenolics. We love using it in an IPA (including a brut IPA), stout, or Bière de Garde. Non-phenolic. This strain tests positive for the STA1 gene, an indicator of Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. diastaticus, and is capable of fermenting dextrins, resulting in very high attenuation. Not sure what to brew? Check out Omega's Raw NEIPA recipe using Gulo™ Ale! Attenuation: 85-90% Flocculation: Medium Alcohol Tolerance: 12% ABV Optimum Fermentation Temp: 68-77°F Cell Count: 225 Billion Please Note: For best results we Always recommend ordering an Ice Pack with your liquid yeast. • CellarScience - Dry Yeast - ORIGIN Seltzer / Distillers Yeast - PLACEHOLDER CellarScience - Dry Yeast - ORIGIN Seltzer / Distillers Yeast - PLACEHOLDER

CellarScience® ORIGIN Dry Yeast | Hard Seltzer Yeast | Distillers Yeast

The ideal yeast for producing a very neutral, clean base for hard seltzers, canned cocktails, further distillation, etc. Works with malt or sugar fermentations Includes nutrients and pH buffers to keep fermentation humming to finish Able to handle high levels of ethanol and osmotic pressure Ferments clean up to 80°F Our motto is to Empower Your Creative Vision. Origin is a unique style of yeast used to create a neutral alcoholic base that acts as the Origin upon which you layer other flavors. Perfect for Hard Seltzers, Canned Cocktails, and whatever else you can dream up. Also great for neutral washes designed for distillation and tough to ferment honey-based mead fermentations. Works on both sugar, honey, and malt-based fermentations. The secret sauce is a very neutral, high alcohol tolerant yeast combined with nutrients and pH buffers. The non-urea-based nutrients help the yeast in simple sugar mediums naturally low in nutrients. pH buffers ensure a high enough pH to allow the yeast to run to completion in even the toughest of situations. The yeast strain used in Origin is a very low producer of H2S and fruity esters resulting in a clean final product. Origin stays clean at higher fermentation temperatures up to 80°F. Origin could technically be called a Turbo Yeast being packed with nutrients. However, we don't like that association as many turbo Yeasts are not selected and assembled for quality and flavor but rather price and speed. Turbo Yeasts also do not include pH buffers. Origin will work with all commonly used sugars, including sucrose, dextrose, and liquid invert sugar. When fermenting wort from malted barley, use our Brutzyme Glucoamylase Enzyme to break down α-1,4 and α-1,6 glycosidic linkages of starch, dextrins, and oligosaccharides for a drier, more fully attenuated final product. Pilot batches should always be performed to find the optimum final product for your further vision. Directions: Add 10 to 20 g per gal (2.5 to 5 g per liter) directly into your fermentation with no hydration required. Ferment between 65 to 80°F (18-27°C). We recommend starting with a dosage of 15 g per gal (4 g per liter) and adjusting as desired in future batches.

    1 review

3638 is a complex alternative to the standard German wheat strain profile, producing apple, pear, and plum esters in addition to the dominant banana character Esters are complemented nicely by clove and subtle vanilla phenolics Activator Smack-Pack System™ "proofs" the yeast and shortens lag time when it hits your wort When smacked, the Activator™ packet releases sugars and nutrients to initiate the culture's metabolism Wyeast has been a pioneer in craft brewing for over 35 years and is committed to creating the finest fermentation products available Although beneficial, cultures do not need to be activated prior to inoculation A great all around German wheat beer strain! A complex alternative to the standard German wheat strain profile. This strain produces apple, pear, and plum esters in addition to the dominant banana character. The esters are complemented nicely by clove and subtle vanilla phenolics. The balance can be manipulated towards ester production through increasing fermentation temperature, increasing the wort density, and decreasing the pitch rate. Over pitching can result in a near complete loss of banana character. Decreasing the ester level will allow a higher clove character to be perceived. Sulfur is commonly produced, but will dissipate with conditioning. This strain is very powdery and will remain in suspension for an extended amount of time following attenuation. This is true top cropping yeast and requires fermenter headspace of 33%. Attenuation: 70-76% Flocculation: Low Alcohol Tolerance: 10% Optimum Fermentation Temp: 64-75°F Cell Count: 100 Billion Styles: Weissbier Dunkles Weissbier Weizenbock Roggenbier For best results we always recommend ordering an ice pack with your liquid yeast. • Hanna Magnetic Stir Plate

    Hanna Stir Plate

    46 reviews

The HI190M is a compact and lightweight magnetic stirrer. With a small footprint, lack of laboratory bench space is no longer a concern. Built to last with a protective covering and a user-adjustable stirring speed, this small magnetic stirrer is great for any lab space. Compact size to maximize bench space for efficiency and safety. Speedsafe™ mechanism ensures that the maximum speed is never exceeded. Great for use in any sized laboratory. Ideally, when performing electrochemistry measurements, the sample being tested should be stirred. The use of a stir plate allows for proper mixing and the sample to be homogenous in consistency and temperature. The stirring of the sample also helps speed up the response time for a sensor to achieve a stable reading.   Compact & Cost-Effective The HI190M-1 small magnetic stirrer is compact and lightweight, allowing for easy handling in the laboratory environment. Limited area on laboratory benchtops is no longer a concern with this durable, space-saving stirrer. Power-indicating LED lights also assure users at a distance that the stirrer is in operation. The durable plastic covering will resist harmful effects of accidentally spilled chemicals. The HI190M-1 magnetic stirrer is cost-effective for the customer that does not need the added expense of a heating element. The advanced design incorporates electronic controls that allow the user to easily regulate the speed with great precision.   Speedsafe™ Often in the lab, a sample is removed from a stirrer before the speed is adequately reduced. Normally this would cause the internal motor to accelerate until it is damaged. To control the speed from changes in viscosity or removing of the load the HI190M-1 magnetic stirrer incorporates the Speedsafe™ mechanism. With Speedsafe™, a speed sensing device (opto-sensor) is coupled with an FVC (frequency voltage converter) to monitor the stirring speed. As the speed reaches a preset maximum level, the speed limiter shuts down the VCO (voltage-controlled oscillator) to slow down the motor speed. This ensures that when the load is suddenly removed from the stirrer, the motor will not accelerate to such a high speed that will be hazardous to both the user and the stirrer; a feature not commonly found in conventional stirrers.   Fuse Protection For safety, in the event of a short circuit, the HI190M-1 mini magnetic stirrer is equipped with a replaceable fuse. The circuitry of the HI190M-1 magnetic stirrer is grounded to the case for additional protection Compact and lightweight magnetic stirrer with small lab footprint, adjustable stirring speed, power indicating LED lights indicate function from across the room, durable plastic covering to mitigate harmful effects of accidental spills.

Put the lid back on and store in the refrigerator for your next batch! White Labs Coastal Haze is a blend of select New England-style IPA strains making this pitch a knock-out for producing beers with a hazy appearance and tropical, fruit-forward esters. Expect a dry, yet juicy beer, where the mango and pineapple characteristics will lend to added drinkability. **This strain has been genetically typed in White Labs' lab using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Through this genetic testing, they have determined WLP067 Coastal Haze Ale Yeast Blend to contain the STA1 gene (glucoamylase), a potential indicator of Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. diastaticus. Brewers yeast are natural hybrids, which make it possible for certain strains to display elements of the STA1 gene. These strains have the ability to utilize some dextrins (unfermentable sugars), resulting in higher levels of attenuation than what is considered typical. All of our flasks are made from borosilicate type glass which is nice because they can be transferred directly from heat to ice and not crack like normal glass. (We do not recommend the use of an electric element. If this cannot be avoided, we recommend using a larger pot as a hot water bath on the stove.) Great Flask for yeast culturing. Recommended Process for Use of Flask: Double Boiler Method It is important for your safety to heat water in the flask with a heat source that distributes heat evenly. Our manufacturer has confirmed that direct heat to the glass can break down its integrity and break if the heat source doesn't distribute evenly. Morebeer! recommends using the "double boiler method." This process involves using a boiling water bath on the outside of the flask to heat up the water inside the flask. All you need is a kettle 3 gallons or larger. This process is much safer and efficient. If the flask should break or boil over, your kettle will be there to collect the contents, thus keeping your stove clean and keeping you away from potential harm. In the lab world, these flasks are known as "Student Grade". A great flask for making yeast starters! (Student grade is not the highest grade flask and will have minor defects) Kegland Part Number: KL03964

Put the lid back on and store in the refrigerator for your next batch! From England, this yeast can ferment up to 25% alcohol when used correctly. Produces ester character that increases with increasing gravity. Malt character dominates at lower gravities. After using this yeast strain we found out that it can sometimes produce a Belgian Character and sometimes not. Try this yeast with your big Belgians as well as other unique hybrids and you will find yourself pleasantly surprised. We would not recommend it for creating classic true-to-style variations of Barleywines, Imperial Stouts, Strong Ales or any other high-gravity style where Belgian flavors would not be appropriate. This yeast might be a great fit for really big Dunkelweizens. To achieve >25% ABV, sugar needs to be fed over the course of the fermentation. Can I make a starter with WLP200 +

Yes! The difference in growth rate between California and Engilsh is pretty minimal so doing a starter won't change the population ratio.

What is the advantage of a yeast starter? +

We build starters for 3 main reasons. First, to ensure yeast health. By making a starter 1-3 days in advance, you ensure that your yeast is healthy and strong and ready to do its job. Second, to create more yeast. By making the starter you will increase the cell count of the yeast, giving you a better chance of keeping bacteria's and wild yeasts from fermenting your wort. Third, if you are making high gravity beers. If you are making a high gravity beer (1.060+) you will need more yeast to start the ferment faster. High gravity beers will also finish more completely when you pitch ample quantities of yeast. More information on the subject: Before yeast start to convert sugars to alcohol, they go through two stages of respiration. It is during this time that they are building their cell walls up to be strong and healthy. As soon as the yeast eat all the oxygen in the wort, their cells tell them to switch to eating sugars. It is at this point that we as brewers want the yeast to be introduced into the wort so there is a minimal lag time. A starter will do two things for you: one, it will allow the yeast a media in which to "wake up", and two, it will allow the yeast a good environment for multiplication. The more hungry, healthy, and viable yeast cells you have, the faster fermentation begins, and the cleaner the flavors that are produced.

How long will my lager fermentation last? +

It depends on the yeast strain and temperature conditions, but you can expect fermentation with a lager to be done within four weeks. This is not a hard and fast rule. You may have fermentation that is done in as little as two weeks as well. We recommend a minimum primary fermentation at 48-50F for three weeks and a diacetyl rest for three days at 54F. For all lagers it is best to make a yeast starter 48 hours in advance to give your yeast time to replicate in preparation for a cold environment. Don't be alarmed if you don't see krausen (foam) for 2-3 days after pitching yeast this is normal behavior for lager yeast.

At what temperature should I add a lager yeast? +

There are two methods of pitching lager yeasts. Brewers use both methods with success, but each brewer tends to have a preferred approach. A) Starting Warm then Cool Down. This is the easiest method for the average homebrewer. Pitch yeast at 60-65F, reduce the wort temperature 10F per each 12 hours until reaching the desired fermentation temperature of 48-54F. This method works well without forming high amounts of esters because most esters are produced after the first 12 hours. B) Starting Cold using Twice the Yeast, or use a Yeast Starter to "Quick-Start" Fermentation. Pitch four vials of yeast at the recommended fermentation temperature (48-54F). Or, use a Yeast Starter (see next page), to make a 1-2 liter yeast starter per each 5 gallons. Lager yeast ferment well at this temperature, but they grow very slowly. If you use this method, fermentation activity won't show for 48-72 hours. Cli

At what temperature should I ferment my beer? +

First we need to know whether you are fermenting an ale or a lager. An ale will typically be best at a temperature of 62-72 degrees. Most ales excluding Belgians ferment cleaner beer at the lower end around 62-66F. A lager will typically ferment best between 48 to 54 degrees. Those are just ranges in which most ales or lagers will perform appropriately. There are no exceptions where certain ale yeast can ferment below 62 degrees and there are certain lager yeasts which can ferment above 55 degrees. Every yeast has a recommended temperature range. We suggest you research your yeast strain before fermenting to understand its temperament. Get to know your yeast! They're our friends!
