Shaun is known for creating beers that are well-balanced while doing some unique things, such as using watermelon juice in a wheat beer, or oyster shells in an oatmeal stout. His Assistant brewer Jesse created this beer, an easy-drinking pale ale with few bittering hops but giant fistfuls of flavor and aroma hops. This beer has low alcohol and a soft malt backbone with an incredible hop finish - your answer to the hop shortage! Jesse and Shaun recommend using WLP001.
Shaun O'Sullivan of the 21st Amendment, San Francisco, California
Shaun's brewing career started like most in the beer industry - homebrewing. While working at a Southern California law firm, Shaun was spending his time making beers at home. After about 2 years, he not only decided that he wanted to make beer for a living, but that he wanted to open his own place! Shaun moved up to the SF Bay Area to start working at a few local breweries, while taking several brewing courses at UC Davis. Shaun eventually teamed up with his business partner Nicco Freccia, and together, they founded the 21st Amendment Brewery and Restaurant. They are one of the few breweries in the country leading the craft beer canning revolution, canning their "Brew Free or Die" IPA, and their "Hell or High Watermelon", which is an American-style Wheat beer brewed with real watermelon juice. When in San Francisco, visit Shaun at the brewery (563 2nd Street), which is just two blocks from Giants park.

Liquid Malt Extract (LME) vs. Dried Malt Extract (DME)
MoreBeer! recipe kits are offered in both Liquid Malt Extract and Dry Malt Extract so that our customers can choose the format that best suits their needs and brewing style. LME is a viscous liquid, similar in consistency to maple syrup. In addition to being the more affordable option, many brewers find LME easier to handle than dry extract. DME is more condensed and comes in a powder format that is similar to baking flour. Although it’s a little more costly, DME is naturally lighter in color and stays fresher for longer. We highly recommend DME when brewing light colored beers.
Imagine a brewing pump that eliminates cavitation, is easy to clean, has a built in valve, and is quiet. Introducing The RipTide pump from Blichmann, the first pump designed specifically for homebrewing.
We love this brew pump. Like a brewer wired on coffee, let us rattle off some of our favorite features. First, the pull style relief valve that allows air to exit the pump head so the impeller won't cavitate is a genius addition. Our next favorite feature is the bad-ass, built-in flow control valve so you don't have to add additional ball-valves. While we dont manually clean our pumps very often we like the idea that we can easily do that with the clover clamp style connection. That might be particularly important if you are transferring cool wort where extra sanitation might make a difference. Equally cool is the noise, or lack thereof, when operating. It just wears on you to hear your pump grinding away all day. The RipTide pump isn't silent, but it is much quieter. And to top it all off we like the mounting base and the extra long 3 m cord. 3 m gets the plug connection a few meters away from where we are brewing and less likely to be exposed to water - a simple upgrade that is really nice. Oh, and we almost forgot the power switch which is always a nice feature on something electric!
All in all this is a no brainer upgrade for the difference in cost.
Features:
Strong rare earth magnets and a curved blade impeller provide 22 L/M and up to 6.5M of pressure head!
Tri-Clamp head disassembles easily for cleaning
1/2" NPT inlet and outlet
Motor is enclosed in a splash proof and super quiet case
Rotatable stainless steel head
Integrated air release vent allows you to easily prime the pump everytime without those frustrating air bubbles and cavitation
Linear flow valve provided for excellent flow control
Power switch on base
3 m long power cord with 230V plug
Savvy homebrewers do what it takes to keep their gear functioning flawlessly!
If you have invested in the convenience of a Ercole Capper, give yourself the added security of having a spare 26 mm heavy duty capping head on hand.

MB Pro Brewing Systems are very well constructed and represent an amazing overall value. They also boast a very impressive feature set.
Our Pro Insulated Mash Tun features slotted 3-piece false bottom, adjustable-height sparge arm, 4" TC port for optional grist hydrator, and a host of other key features guaranteed to satisfy the expectations of today's pro brewer.
The mash tun has a slotted plate screen with a large grain out port on the side. The optional hydrator allows you to mix grain with hot liquor if you have your mill or grist case above the mash tun. There is a large top access for manual stirring. The walls of the mash tun are insulated to provide stable mashing temperatures. While intended for a single infusion mash, step mashing can be performed by recirculating through a heat exchanger. The sparge arm is adjustable in height and it is intended to have an inch of water above the grain and have the bottom of the diverted plate resting on top of the grain for low oxygen pickup during recirculating and sparging. We recommend that you use a grant to avoid creating suction on the bottom of the mash screen. It is possible to pull 23,000 lbs of force on the screen with a pump and a fully stuck mash and even partial vacuums can produce significant force. Alternatively, you can install a vacuum breaker ahead of the pump. Replacement screens are available for special order.
We strongly recommend using a Wort Grant when pumping off the mash tun to avoid the possibility of collapsing the screens.
Great Quality from MB
Our brewing systems are made at a family owned manufacturer in the Ningbo region of China. Ningbo is where most premium beer tanks and brewing vessels come from and represents a known style and level of quality when compared to other areas of China. Our professional brewhouse equipment is designed by our in-house R&D designer Colin Kaminski, a former brewmaster for 15 years. Cleanability, ease of use, and durability are our primary design criteria. Our manufacturing partner in China is a father/son team that takes great pride in what they do. Some discount dealers buy from different manufacturers who offer one-off deals. That can be fine one time but not the next.

Isolated, studied and selected from the prestigious Côte de Nuits terroir in Burgundy during a three-year research project by Laboratory Burgundia Oenologie in Beaune, France. The goal of this selection program was to find a dominant natural yeast strain from a traditional “cold soak” that would elaborate intense, complex and balanced Pinot Noir varietal character. The 3001 strain stood out from other strains. Wines made with it were noted for fruit and varietal characters that were both elegant and complex. This yeast has moderate nitrogen demands but will benefit from proper nutrition and aeration, these factors becoming increasingly important as your potential alcohol content rises above 13%. This strain is tolerant to standard SO2 additions and low temperatures (down to 12°C/54°F) for a steady and reliable alcoholic fermentation following cold soak. The 3001 yeast is specifically for high quality cold soak Pinot Noir destined for aging.

Ready to dive into distilling, but unsure how to piece together your home still? Check out these complete systems that will set you on the path to producing high quality spirits. This kit comes with the 35L DigiBoil Electric Kettle and the Copper Pot Still Condenser.
The Copper Pot Still is perfect when you want the flavor of the wash to come through, whereas a reflux still is more favorable for producing pure, unflavored spirits. If you want to make whiskeys and gins, this pot still top is a great way to start! The classic "V" shape captures the vital esters, aldehydes, and phenolic compounds that are necessary for the complex spirits such as whiskeys and gins. Made from solid copper. When your hot spirit comes into contact with the copper, the copper acts like a catalytic converter to drive sulfur out of the spirit. This leads to less off-flavors and higher quality spirit.
Kit Includes:
35L DigiBoil Gen 2 (110V or 220V)
110V / 15A power and plug (5 ft. cord)
220V / 15A power
NEMA 6-15 plug (5 ft. cord)
Copper Reflux Still Condenser w/ Barb Connections
13 mm Inlet/Outlet Barbs (0.51 in.)

Ready to dive into distilling, but unsure how to piece together your home still? Check out these complete systems that will set you on the path to producing high quality spirits. This kit comes with the 35L DigiBoil Electric Kettle and the Copper Reflux Still Condenser.
The Copper Reflux Still Condenser is designed to create high percentage pure neutral spirit. It features a flow management device, which makes it extremely easy to use. No need to worry about fine tuning the water flow speed. As long as your providing enough coolant or cold water running through the condenser, the flow rate doesn't matter. The purity of the spirit can be controlled by two included flow control inserts. These brass inserts come with a 1.0mm hole and 0.6mm hole. As the hole gets smaller, the rate at which the spirit exits the condenser will decrease, thus increasing your reflux ratio and the purity of your spirit.

This stainless 4" tri-clover ball lock lid is a direct replacement to the lid that comes on our kegmenters.

A new 5 lb CO2 tank is one of the required purchases when you’re changing over from bottling to kegging your beer.
This brand new 5 lb aluminum CO2 tank ships free in the 48 contigous states. Aluminum tanks will never rust, which is why we prefer them over steel tanks. The capacity refers to the amount of compressed (liquified) CO2 the tank can hold. 5 lbs of CO2 is enough to dispense 8 to 9 5-gallon kegs of homebrew.
All new CO2 tanks are shipped empty and will require either filling or exchanging for a full tank. Most local homebrew shops will stock gas to exchange, and many local welding supply companies can fill tanks on site.
CO2 tanks should always be stored in an upright position.
Dimensions: 14.33" Tall x 5.25" wide.
Due to high demand, this item is currently out of stock. Be the first to receive your items by placing a pre-order today. We will automatically ship this item to you when we receive more in late December. For an in stock 5 lb CO2 tank option, please see our D1050.
