Vietnam Da Lat Arabica Lotus | Green Coffee Beans

    Description

Named for the lotus, Vietnam's national flower, this washed Arabica comes from the cool highlands of Cau Dat near Da Lat and is a welcome surprise for anyone who thinks of Vietnam only as a Robusta origin. Smallholder farmers sell ripe cherry to local wet mills, where the coffee is carefully fermented and washed, then stored in Da Lat's cool climate before export. In our testing it was far more interesting in the brewed cup than its light dry fragrance suggests: delicate florals, light citrus and a tea-like finish over a soft orchard-fruit sweetness. It is a coffee that rewards a thoughtful roast.

    Cupping Notes:
    • Flavor: Subtle jasmine and light citrus over soft peach and green apple sweetness, with a gentle milk chocolate base and a clean, tea-like finish.
    • Body: Smooth and medium.
    • Acidity: Clean and medium, crisp rather than sharp.
    • Aroma: Light and delicate as whole bean. Florals and orchard fruit come forward once brewed.
Origin: Cau Dat, Da Lat, Lam Dong Province, Vietnam
    Altitude: 1,400–1,600 meters (4,593–5,249 feet)
    Varietal: Catimor
    Process: Washed

Key Points About Vietnam Da Lat Lotus:
    • Specialty Arabica from Vietnam's central highlands, grown on smallholder farms of roughly one to three hectares.
    • Roast sensitive. An underdeveloped roast can taste grassy, so carry it through first crack with full development to bring out its florals and sweetness.
    • Shines as a pour-over, where the jasmine and citrus come through clearly.
    • An easy way to discover a different side of Vietnamese coffee.
