Used a 15gal wide pot and TIG welded a 1.5†TC port to the bottom about 1†from the edge of it. I attach this fitting to the port and recirculate the wort through a spare pump. I’m strictly using this fitting as a post boil whirlpool vessel. Works like a charm. Clear wort goes through my plate chiller post whirlpool and into a conical fermenter. Fitting is a little pricey but everything is these days. Would definitely recommend. Fine welding done on this piece.

Could a heating element fit in the space above the whirlpool return?

what is the length of the whirlpool arm extending out?
I guess it depends on your kettle I was able to stick in my spike solo basket without problem.
1.75" from tc gasket surface to centerline of whirlpool tube. 1/2" o.d tube 3/8" i.d. it works great!

Will a centered thermowell fit?
It depends on how thick it is a skinny no problem.
