A good test for the cost. Easy to use.

Perfect test kit. Only thing i recommend is either having the chemical in a shorter bottle or the syringe with an adaptable/removable tip.. because you can pull the chemical from its container with the syringe- you must pour the chemical into a secondary container to then fill the syringe.

        Super Easy to Use

Very happy to have this test added to my wine making Arsenal. I am confident using and happy with the test results.

        Useful starting point

This kit works, but once you understand how to do the test, it's much easier to use a pH meter. All you need is Sodium Hydroxide, a few syringes, and a pH meter. You'll get more accurate results if you use a larger volume, and you can get those components cheaper on their own.

        Reasonably accurate

The test kit is much more accurate than the colorimetric test paper type kits. The syringe used to measure wine volume and volume of sodium hydroxide titrant is not particularly accurate. A much higher degree of accuracy is possible if a pipet is used to measure wine volume and a buret is used to measure the volume of sodium hydroxide required to neutralize the acid. The phenolphthalein indicator works well for white wine but the endpoint (color change) is not distinct in red wine. I recommend using a pH meter and neutralizing to pH 8.2 rather than using an indicator. The sodium hydoxide solution should not be left open any longer than required. Carbon dioxide in the air reacts with sodium hydroxide, reducing the effective NaOH concentration which would result in a higher acidity value than the wine actually has.

        TA kit

This kit is a step above most of the others. Easier to read color change in large container because the lid allows quick mixing while waiting to see the change. Large enough for inserting probe from pH meter which takes the guess work out of finding the endpoint.

        Manual TA test kit

It works much better than the Vinmetrica SC-300, at least I can get a more accurate reading as to the acid value.

What does it mean if my white wine with three drops of Phenolphthalein Indicator will not even turn pink at all? It's not that it turns pink and disappears like it is supposed to it does not even turn pink for a second. I added another 3 drops of indicator and still nothing (not sure if that would effect my end results or not just wanted to try). I ran the test on my red and it worked fine. I got by grey/green color.

how much base did you add in an attempt to get it to turn pink?

        MoreBeer!

Sorry - I don’t make white wine so I don’t know why it does not turn pink. How does it taste? If the PH is good and you like how it looks and tastes then I would bottle it and enjoy.
