Works like a charm easy to use great for making 1 gallon wine batches from fresh grapes.
I brew only extract with some mini mash and steeping grains. Most recipes brewed in the LBK. This fermenter allows me to brew 2.5g batches. I have figured out the lid, not a problem. The lack of a full tight seal is also not a problem. I lube the lid mating with keg lube, gets a better seal. Most of the time I get a good bubble action in the air lock. The spigot, I use the flat 'o ring' on the inside and round 'o ring' on the outside, two gaskets. Dont over tighten. Check for leaks when sanitizing. It has been working great for me. I might try and find a 12.5inch by 1/8 O ring later to get a better air-tight seal . If I brew a 5g recipe kit I split it between 2 of these. I have 2 now, plan on another as the MRB LBK age out (only use them for 2 years)
I really like this smaller batch fermenter. I mark mine with volume gradients and noticed that one could likely brew 2.75 gal batches in these, and maybe a bit more as long as it’s lower gravity. There’s a few things I noted. The lid, to me, is a bit too secure. It takes a lot of effort to twist the lid on/off, though it does have cool grippy holes to help with this. My issue is that it seems easy to rile up the trub bed. I’ve actually just pressed the lid down without screwing it’s in place. The spigot is interesting in that it can be disassembled to clean, which is great. However it’s placed in the fermenter a bit low so that the spigot has to be canted to sit flush, which is odd.The air lock is just cheap junk, I threw mine away. Overall I’m quite pleased and would recommend this.
So far so good. great size, air tight and no leakage. Currently got an apple nectar mead fermenting, very excited to see how it turns out!
Despite the lid fastening issue other reviewers have complained about —and it is challenging—the fermenter is designed very well, and I use it primarily for secondary. The few times I used it as a primary fermenter I had to use my rubber mallet to make a better seal. But for the price, it was worth the minor inconvenience.
Very good quality but I can't give it perfect stars due to lid. I'm able to twist it on and off just fine but mu concern is how air tight it is. I can hear it fermenting from the side and not tye bubble lock. While I'm sure the c02 will be enough to keep out oxygen I am concerned about it ruined my batch of cider I made with fresh apples. Would had to waste a $50 beach from a $20 fermenter
This is a good option for 2.5 gallon batches of mead. Lid is a little difficult but had no problem getting a seal the first time using it. I now have 2 of them as I liked the size and ease of use.
Only reason for 4 stars is that you must install an O ring for the lid to seal. Other than that it is a very nice smaller fermenter. The lid is grooved for a 1/8" O ring that ideally would have been included. Regardless I ordered a 2nd fermenter. Also the capacity is a good 3.25 G with enough headspace. After the modification they are very good.
Only used it once - still using it actually, making 2-1/2 gallons of mead. Love that it’s light, easy to clean, and doesn’t require a vacuum pump. I’m going to really enjoy it.
Had some trouble getting the lid to latch, but works great for I need
I love this little fermenter, perfect for 2.5 gallon batches. Some have complained that the lid is difficult to get on and off, takes a little finesse, but it's fine once you get the hang of it. Lid seals nicely, airlock is very active (though I did swap out the one that comes with it for a 3 piece).
I haven’t used it yet but I like the quality and the spigot (doesn’t leak) and the tight seal on the lid. I can’t wait to get my mead started!
I love this fermenter. Perfect size to fit into my temp control, convenient to move around, perfect for my 3gallon kegs.My only complaint is that there's only a sticker included for the volume in there, but the line is 2.9 gallons. I'd like maybe just a line on the container which shows 3 gallon instead. I ended up just sharpie-ing a line for 3 gallons and not using the included sticker. It's not a big deal, still 5 stars
It's a sturdy little fermenter for intermediate-sized homebrew batches. Contrary to some other reviews I have read, the lid really does make an airtight seal, but sometimes you have to try more than once to get it seated and locked. Another potential source of leakage is the airlock grommet, whose hole is a bit large for standard airlocks. I managed to get a tight seal on mine by wrapping some electrical tape around the airlock stem to create a firmer fit. Once I did this, the airlock started bubbling away.
I had a mixed experience with this order and I am giving it three stars only because I received a prompt refund. Before I placed the order I tried calling customer service but nobody ever picked up. I wanted more specifics on the dimensions and that info wasn’t available anywhere on the website. I went ahead with the order but when I received the fermenter and began using it, I realized that it leaks from around the spigot. At first I thought that a couple of drops here and there won’t be a big deal, but before I knew it there was a puddle on my floor. The fermenter was unusable! I contacted customer service via email and they responded promptly and refunded my purchase.
I like to make small batches of mead & fruit wines and this is the perfect size for my needs.
I love this thing. It's a great size for smaller batches, cleans easily, and is much higher quality than I expected. I have no issues getting a good seal but it does twist a little more than you think it might. It's not hard to twist on tight, just stops a little as if it were sealed but a little more and it seals tight. The rounded bottom works nicely to keep some trub away from the spigot. The spigot also has a nut that is more like a cap with a semi circular opening to further assist in keeping unwanteds from flowing out of the spigot. I had no issues whatsoever with the spigot leaking.I've been searching and searching the internet for a larger version but have been unsuccessful. If they made this in a bigger size I'd absolutely but it for 5 gal batches.I will likely go with one of these again to have a second fermenter. I've never used a Speidel but at half the price I'm not sure what could make it worth the extra cost.
I purchased this at the Riverside MoreBeer store upon the recommendation of Rob the store manager. (Kudos to Rob)It is the perfect size for small and experimental batches. It comes with an airlock, grommet, spigot and stick on thermometer. I am brewing a kveik experimental batch right now. The hole at the top fits the smaller silicone tube perfectly (I used it during initial fermentation) and then switched to the airlock. Thus far I am very happy and have not had any issue with it not sealing up completely. (Which really is unnecessary)I highly recommend this item!
I was a bit hesitant to order due to the reviews on the bucket not getting a good seal on the lid. I have not had any of those issues. I have consistent airlock activity on every batch I have run through it. Perfect size for my 2.5 to 3 gallon brews.
I'd rate it 5 stars but the lid is awkward to screw on and off and doesn't seal. Not a big deal though.
This is a great little fermenter but I can't get the lid to seal tight. On my second use and still having the sealing issue. I think I'm going to have to make some type of tool to really crank down on the lid. Easy to clean and of solid construction.
It’s perfect for 3 gallon batches. Lid can be a little hard to get on and tight but once it’s on it’s airtight.
Works like a charm, easy to use, great for making 1 gallon wine batches from fresh grapes.
Great affordable 4gal fermenter. Highly recommended!
This is a nice, inexpensive fermenter. I poured individual gallons in and marked the outside with permanent marker so I know how much beer I made. With the large opening, it should be easy to harvest yeast too.
I just got into BIAB for 3 gallons, and I found my 5-6 gallon fermenters were just too big for the small batch. I bought this about 1 month ago, and just was able to use it this past week. It is the perfect size for my 3 gallon BIAB. The lid fits very snug and twists on to get a good fit. The other great thing is the bottom is concaved which holds the traub away from the spigot. I wish I couuld get a larger one for when I do 5+ gallons.
This is perfect for making 2.5 gal brews rather than 5 gal. Great for having more varieties of beer on hand.
nice little fermenter for 2-3 gallon batches. my only complaint is the spigot is pretty much useless. even in a low gravity beer I have too much trub to use the spigot. probably better suited to wine or cider making or as a secondary. if you use it with a siphon it's fine.
Will this fermenter tolerate 160F degree water?
