Our Reina del Sol Lager is modeled after the most popular Mexican-style lager in the U.S., Corona Extra. Whether you're relaxing under the sun on a pool day or getting beat down by merciless rays on a chore day, you can always count on this crisp, refreshing Mexican Cerveza to cool you off. In that fashion, we designed a straightforward recipe that consists of Pilsner malt extract, flaked corn and a scoop of Carapils with two dashes of Galena hops to provide just a kiss of bitterness. To make it a true to form cerveza, ferment cold with a Mexican yeast strain like CellarScience® BAJA. Originally developed and popularized by the Modelo Group, this Mexican yeast strain produces clean lagers and finishes dry. Barebottle's award-winning Torcido is a Mexican pilsner with a German Helles twist. Combining these styles results in a light and refreshing lager that would make even M. Night Shyamalan do a double take. Originally developed by Barebottle brewer John "Magic" Montes De Oca, Torcido took gold in the International Pilsener category of the 2019 Great American Beer Fest and in turn became the inaugural inductee into the Viking Malt Hall of Fame. The extract Torcido clone recipe is brewed with pilsen extract, flaked corn, a dash of Carahell®, and hopped with two additions of Crystal and Saaz. Barebottle Brewing Company was born in San Francisco, CA with the idea that craft brewing shouldn't adhere to the strict guidelines of established beer styles. This recipe is an Americanized pilsner that I have evolved for him over the years.
