American Pale Ale II | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

    15 reviews

Our OG American Pale Ale recipe with the malt and hop character kicked up a notch Includes Magnum, Cascade and Willamette hops Estimated ABV: 5.3% Estimated IBUs: 57 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Looking for the perfect Pale Ale to share with friends this summer? Do you like a Pale Ale with a rich malt flavor and a ton of hop character but without an overwhelming bitterness? Then the Pale Ale II should be your next brew. We took our American Pale recipe and upped the malt, threw a ton of hops in the finish for flavor, but kept the bitterness the same. We think toning down the perceived bitterness is one reason we consistently get great reviews from brewers sharing this with friends. Keeping it real: Part of the success of this kit is blending a lot of Willamette and Cascade hops in the finish. This isn't a wild, new or crazy idea... this is old school. Cascade and Willamette were the hops that helped put craft brewing on the map in the 1980's. The reason they are still so popular... they make a damn good beer. We like damn good beer. And yes we like to wear our Sperry Topsiders and listen to Van Halen when we drink this (note if you were born in the 80's ignore this comment). Truly delectable and different yet still keeping it real. Firestone Walker Brewing Company Double Barrel Ale® | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

    7 reviews

This BrewMaster Series kit was scaled down to a homebrew batch size in collaboration with the brewmasters at Firestone Walker Brewing Company A smooth amber ale with subtle oak notes blending perfectly with wonderful malt character Includes Willamette and Kent Goldings hops Estimated ABV: 5% Estimated IBUs: 32-34 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Matt Brynildson of Firestone Walker Brewing Co., Paso Robles, California. It seems to some that Matt has almost been bred to brew beer. After getting a degree in chemistry in 1993, Matt went to work in Michigan doing research and development on hops for the brewing industry. In 1995, Matt went to the famous Seibel Institute of Brewing Technology to further his education. After brewing for Goose Island in Chicago and then moving to California to work for SLO Brewing, Matt was appointed Small Brewmaster of the Year in 2001. Later that year, he was asked to join the crew at Firestone Walker. Two years later Matt was dubbed Mid-Sized Brewer of the Year at the Great American Beer Fest AND at the World Cup of Beer, for a total of 12 medals in just three years! Since then, Firestone Walker has been gaining a large following in California due in part to it's flagship beer, Double Barrel Ale, which is produced in a Burton Union system that has the beer fermenting in barrels. Firestone Walker Brewing Company is the only brewery in the U.S. to ferment in barrels and one of only two in the world. In addition to the line-up at Firestone Walker, Matt also brews the Nectar Ales line of beers, as well as a few of the Trader Joe's house brands. Learn more at www.firestonebeer.com Don't let the name fool you, this beer is easy on the oak, having been created so that all ingredients blend perfectly with one another, even the oak. In fact, the oak really takes a back seat to the wonderful malt characteristics that this beer presents, which may be hard to imagine once you realize there are 2 ounces of oak in this one! A blend of American and English base malts provide the foundation for this beer. A little Munich, some crystal, and that's it - simple, yet flavorful. Just how we like it. One can easily spend all night drinking this smooth amber ale ... in fact, many of us at MoreBeer! have done just that! The low bitterness ties everything together and makes you remember just how much of a craft brew this beer really is. American Honey Pale Ale | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

    4 reviews

This ale will deliver a smooth blend of Cascade floral character and biterness, tempered by a slight sweetness from the honey Includes 100% Cascade hops Estimated ABV: 6% Estimated IBUs: 40 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer In 2011, the White House home brewed beer for the first time in, well, perhaps centuries! We were super were excited when a MoreBeer! customer first submitted his freedom of information act request for the White House homebrew recipes. We were a little surprised, and we'll say it - let down - when we saw the actual recipes. One MoreBeer! staffer blurted out "Whoa...this seems like beer that Prince Harry should be brewing." English malt extract, English hops, and even an English yeast strain were used; so the only thing truly American was the honey! It seems that we were not the only beer lovers to pick up on this. So while we really, really love English beers as much as the next homebrewer, we think the Commander In Chief of America and his White House Brewmasters should be using fresh ingredients from well...America. Since we were tweaking the recipe towards this side of the pond, we decided we could also help educate the White House staff on their yeast selection. Yes dry yeast has gotten better but since its for the White House and all, we think they can spring for liquid yeast...and is there any better choice for this recipe than Wyeast 1056 AMERICAN Ale or White Labs 001 California Ale?? Not really. In fact, just queue up the star spangled banner, turn on the football game, and throw some hot dogs on the grill because we are starting to feel pretty patriotic here. So while we send this kit along with our friendly suggestions back to the White House, YOU can make the exact same beer at home. That way if you are in a diner somewhere on the campaign trail and the president pulls up you can whip out a bottle of the 'Honey Pale the White House Should Be Making' or the 'Honey Porter the White House Should Be Making' and enlighten the Top Dog, homebrewer style. This American Honey Pale Ale uses all American ingredients, including: White Wheat, Crystal 15L, and 2-Row grown in the USA Cascade hops California Wildflower Honey Truly a classic American Pale Ale recipe!  This ale will deliver a smooth blend of Cascade floral character and biterness, tempered by a slight sweetness from the honey.  The California Wildflower Honey delivers just enough residual sweetness to result in an amazingly balanced, hoppily delicious pale ale. Phantasm Hazy Pale Ale | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

    1 review

Our Phantasm Powder hazy recipes are bursting with a tropical bouquet complimented by a choice selection of New Zealand and Pacific Northwest hops Includes Cascade, Citra®, Motueka, Mosaic®, and Nelson hops Estimated ABV: 5.8% Estimated IBUs: 22 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer If you're hearing ghostly tales whispered around your local homebrew shop, there's no need to pile your brew crew into the hippy van—this one is no mystery. Phantasm Powder has been causing quite a stir on the craft beer scene, and the buzz is well deserved. Adding this powder to your wort and fermenting it with a thiolized yeast strain is one of the easiest ways to boost tropical flavor and aroma in your finished beer. Derived from Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc Grapes, this powder will add a concentrated dose of thiol precursors. During fermentation, yeast will go to work on these aroma compounds and "free the thiol", boosting the tropical bouquet of your beer to supernatural levels. We're stoked to get this cutting-edge ingredient into the hands of homebrewers so we designed a series of Phantasm recipe kits that will set you up to take full advantage of brewing with Phantasm Powder. Our Phantasm Hazy Pale Ale features a 50/50 split of New Zealand and Pacific Northwest aroma hop additions that lean into a tropical, citrusy character that will pair perfectly with Phantasm Powder. Since this kit series is all about the thiols, we start with whole cone Cascade in the mash to further increase the thiol precursors. Add the Phantasm Powder at flameout along with your whirlpool / hop stand additions. For maximum effect, we highly recommend choosing a thiolized yeast strain for fermentation which are specifically designed to boost thiol biotransformation. Left Coast Pale Ale by Phil Montalbano | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

    1 review

Our Signature Series kits offer a selection of crazy, unique beers developed by MoreBeer! customers, associates, and homebrewing legends! Enjoy the citrus/orange hop character Amarillo® hops impart on to this thirst-quenching Pale Ale Includes 100% Amarillo® hops Estimated ABV: 5.3% Estimated IBUs: 50-55 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Phil created this recipe in an effort to stop his long, slow spiral into fruity, phenolic, sour beers that began to populate his fermenters and kegs back in 1998. Honestly, Phil seriously contemplated throwing gummy bears into his brew and realized it was time to step back, look around, sober up, and grab a classic West Coast pale ale. This beer is dominated by the wonderful Amarillo® hop that is known for having a citrus/orange flavor. The Left Coast Pale has been brewed many times over as a house favorite during the Fermentation Frenzy shop era (Los Altos, CA circa 1997-2007). Try it, you'll like it. And, unfortunately, so will your friends. Phil recommends for an even more pronounced hop nose and flavor you add an additional 1oz of Amarillo® hops to the fermenter as a dry hop addition (not included with kit). Firestone Walker Brewing Company Pale 31® Ale | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

    4 reviews

This BrewMaster Series kit was scaled down to a homebrew batch size in collaboration with the brewmasters at Firestone Walker Brewing Company Light in body and color, but strong in hop flavor and aroma Includes Fuggles, Chinook, Cascade, and Centennial hops Estimated ABV: 4.5% Estimated IBUs: 13 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Fact: Firestone Walker has been named "Mid-Size Brewery of the Year" four times. Another fact: Pale 31 has won 10 Gold Medals since 2003 (yeah, that's one a year!). The Pale 31 California Pale Ale is what some refer to as "The Perfect American Pale Ale". Light in body and color, but strong in hop flavor and aroma, this is one of those beers that most beer lovers will always want on tap. After having one, you'll most likely want another, and being under 5% ABV makes this a little more possible! The recipe consists of American 2-Row, Munich malt, and Carapils for added mouthfeel. The hops are a perfect blend of Fuggles, Chinook, Cascade and Centennial. Firestone Walker's head brewer Matt Brynildson had worked on his Pale Ale recipe for a long time before being perfectly satisfied. We know that once you taste this beer, you'll agree with us that his hard work has definitely paid off! Don't forget to purchase The Brewing Network's "The Perfect American Pale Ale" DVD too! Matt Brynildson discusses water modification, recipe formulation, and techniques on how to brew Pale 31! To read more, click here. English Pale Ale II | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

    3 reviews

A twist on our standard English Pale Ale, this recipe calls for Munich and Carapils malts for added roundness and body Includes Magnum and Northern Brewer hops Estimated ABV: 5.1% Estimated IBUs: 55-59 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer A very well balanced Pale Ale. You can taste the malt and the hops without being overpowered by the bitterness. We use Crisp Maris Otter malt for a drier finishing Pale Ale. We differ from the standard British Pale Ale recipes by throwing in a 1/2 of Munich for a little roundness of flavor and 1/2 pound of Carapils for added body. The crystal malt used is British Carastan. Northern Brewer hops are really mellow and not at the front of the flavor profile. Estimated Original Gravity: 1.051-54 SRM (Color Range): 8 IBUs: 55-59 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 5.1%   Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. • Kit (All Grain) - Symons Galaxy - Australian Sparkling Ale - PLACEHOLDER Kit (All Grain) - Symons Galaxy - Australian Sparkling Ale - PLACEHOLDER

Imperiale Beer Project Symons Galaxy Australian Sparkling Ale | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

    2 reviews

This BrewMaster Series kit was scaled down to a homebrew batch size in collaboration with the brewmasters at Imperiale Beer Project Light, easy-drinking body paired up with delicious hop-forward flavors and aromatics Includes 100% Galaxy hops Estimated ABV: 4.4% Estimated IBUs: 21 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer It's a big brewing world out there, make sure you see as much of it as possible! Australian Sparkling Ale is one of those mysterious beer styles that a lot of us had never sampled (or even heard of, really). But its light, easy-drinking body paired up with delicious hop-forward flavors and aromatics make it an outstanding, sessionable brew. Pilsner dominates the malt profile with a dash of White Wheat and Carapils for body and mouthfeel, allowing the hop combination of Galaxy and Strata to really pop. Similar to how the best view of the Milky Way is on a moonless night in the Outback, these hops are on gorgeous display as post boil and dry hop additions, with very little bitterness to cloud the citrus, tropical, and cannabis character they impart. Symons Galaxy was first brewed at Imperiale Beer Project in Brentwood, CA as part of a virtual collaboration with Australian beer historian, Peter Symons. Who better to have at your side (albeit through the computer screen) than the gentleman who literally wrote the BJCP guidelines for the style? This collaborative effort resulted in a unique, modern take on the ASA style—introducing Strata, a non-Australian hop, into the mix to complement the heavy additions of Galaxy hops. Symons Galaxy was a smash hit, and is sure to satisfy any hop head out there. For great reads on historic Australian beers and other topics, check out Peter's collection of books here.   Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.038-43 SRM (Color Range): 3 IBUs: 21 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 4.4%   Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. Honey Pale Ale by Jim Rossi | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

    2 reviews

Our Signature Series kits offer a selection of crazy, unique beers developed by MoreBeer! customers, associates, and homebrewing legends! Lightly hopped with loads of honey to penetrate through the malty flavor profile Includes 100% Cascade hops Estimated ABV: 4.7% Estimated IBUs: 13-17 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer We would not have put 3lbs of honey with 7 lbs of malt in a pale ale, but Jim had no fear and did just that. The result - a really nice mix of malt and honey flavors. There is enough honey to make it through into the flavor. Just a little Cascade hops in the beginning and finish keep the flavor emphasis on the honey. He suggests WLP002 because it is less attenuative and leaves more malt behind. Ron Mexico Pale Ale | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

    2 reviews

When we first got our hands on experimental hop HBC 438 (nicknamed Ron Mexico and now known as Sabro™) we couldn't wait to design a recipe around it Includes Magnum and Sabro™ hops Estimated ABV: 4.6% Estimated IBUs: 53-57 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer The next hot hop? This delicious Pale Ale is based on new experimental hop, HBC438, that has the unofficial name of  Ron Mexico due to its native US neomexicanus  hop heritage. This hop has enticing aromas of stone and tropical fruit, orange, mint, and herbal characteristics.  Vinnie from Russian River Brewing (of Pliny fame) used this hop in an experimental beer brewed for the National Homebrewers Conference and also recently raved about this hop in a talk we attended. The story of this hop is really unique. Traditionally hop breeders finish the testing of experimental hops internally and then release to the commercial market. Now they are turning the tables and trying something new!  HBC 438 is being released EXCLUSIVELY to the Homebrewing community first. Then in the future, as more is grown, they will release it to commercial brewers. So the tables are flipped - Pro brewers will be reading your reviews and seeing what you thought of the hottest new hop.  What is also cool is that all proceeds from the sales of these hops go to ALS.net and help fund the ALS Therapy Development Institute, the world's largest non-profit biotech focused entirely on ALS Research.  Our take on a Ron Mexico pale includes some acid malt and carapils for body, crystal 60 for color and richness, and Rahr Two-Row for a great malty base. Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.045-1.049 SRM (Color Range): 6-8 IBUs: 53-57 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 4.5-4.7% Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. Our Signature Series kits offer a selection of crazy, unique beers developed by MoreBeer! customers, associates, and homebrewing legends! A quintessential example of the Pale Ale style, this recipe perfectly balances malt and hop character Includes Cascade and Northern Brewer hops Estimated ABV: 5.2% Estimated IBUs: 29-33 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Craig has been perfecting his Travelin Man recipe over the years by brewing for competitions and for his own consumption at home. Travelin Man is at the high end of the pale ale guidelines, with a nice balance between the malt and hops. This is a great beer to let cold condition. Cold conditioning brings forward the malt flavors and makes it even easier drinking. Craig created this beer to take the edge off a long day of driving on the southern California freeway system and as his house ale. So whether you have been to the East or just feel like someone has given you the third degree, this fine ale will deliver what you are looking for. • Kit (All Grain) - White Koji Ale - Proper Sake - PLACEHOLDER Kit (All Grain) - White Koji Ale - Proper Sake - PLACEHOLDER

Proper Sake Co. White Koji Ale | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

    1 review

This BrewMaster Series kit was scaled down to a homebrew batch size in collaboration with the brewmasters at Proper Sake Co. An incredibly crushable light pale ale made with White Koji. Refreshing and citrusy Includes Cascade and Huell Melon hops Estimated ABV: 5.5% Estimated IBUs: 12 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Whether you're in constant search of new ways to push the "traditional boundaries" of brewing, or you're just looking for another crushable crowd pleaser to add to your arsenal of recipes, Proper Sake's White Koji Ale is the beer for you. As the name implies, this recipe is crafted around the specialty ingredient of White Koji. Koji is a staple ingredient in the fermentation processes for sake, soy sauce, miso, and more. But White Koji, in particular, is gaining ground as a new brewing ingredient which can impart a beautiful citric acidity in the final beer. This recipe from Proper Sake Co. results in an incredibly crushable light pale ale with a slight haze in the glass. The malt character will hang in the background as Cascade and Huell Melon support the overall refreshing, citrusy quality enhanced by the White Koji. Our friends at Proper Sake Co. are specialists in Kimoto and Yamahai sake production—and have been known to apply their fermentation knowledge to a beer or two. Next time you find yourself in Nashville, TN, pop into Rice Vice bar to sample from their amazing selection of sake. Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.052-57 SRM (Color Range): 4 IBUs: 12 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 5.5% Please note: Your printed recipe sheet may reference 20 oz of White Koji in the "Recipe Tips" section. • Kit (All-Grain) - Frank Ellis - PLACEHOLDER Kit (All-Grain) - Frank Ellis - PLACEHOLDER

Pale Ale by Frank Ellis | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain

Our Signature Series kits offer a selection of crazy, unique beers developed by MoreBeer! customers, associates, and homebrewing legends! This recipe displays the malt, alcohol and hoppiness of an IPA but with the bitterness of a Pale Ale Includes Willamette and Cascade hops Estimated ABV: 5.8% Estimated IBUs: 39-42 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer The legendary Frank Ellis, Grandfather of our Signature Series Kits, brings you his over the top Pale Ale with an amazing 7 oz of hops and 9 lbs of malt extract. It has the malt, alcohol and hoppiness of an IPA but the bitterness of a Pale Ale. Frank started with our American Pale Ale II, KIT250 – but this wasn’t enough flavor for Frank. So he added one pound of malt extract, more finish hops, followed by... yet more finish hops! The resulting flavor is malty with plenty of hop flavor, courtesy of the copious amounts of Cascade and Willamette hops. One day while  on the phone placing an order with us, Frank got tired of having to make these additions to our existing KIT250 so he asked why he couldn’t have his own kit to cut down on confusion. He was absolutely right!  So the series was born! When you are drinking any of the Signature Series recipes, raise your glass and give a virtual cheers to fellow homebrewer Frank Ellis in Missouri for the good idea. Frank has brewed his own kit an amazing 62 times over the last decade! Frank recommends using White Labs California yeast, WLP001 or Wyeast American, WY1056. Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity:1.058-62 SRM (Color Range): 7-11 IBUs: 39-42 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 5.8% Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. This BrewMaster Series kit was scaled down to a homebrew batch size in collaboration with the brewmasters at 21st Amendment An easy-drinking pale ale with few bittering hops but giant fistfuls of flavor and aroma hops Includes Cascade, Liberty, and Willamette hops Estimated ABV: 4.3% Estimated IBUs: 33-41 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Shaun is known for creating beers that are well-balanced while doing some unique things, such as using watermelon juice in a wheat beer, or oyster shells in an oatmeal stout. His Assistant brewer Jesse created this beer, an easy-drinking pale ale with few bittering hops but giant fistfuls of flavor and aroma hops. This beer has low alcohol and a soft malt backbone with an incredible hop finish - your answer to the hop shortage! Jesse and Shaun recommend using WLP001.  Shaun O'Sullivan of the 21st Amendment, San Francisco, California Shaun's brewing career started like most in the beer industry - homebrewing. While working at a Southern California law firm, Shaun was spending his time making beers at home. After about 2 years, he not only decided that he wanted to make beer for a living, but that he wanted to open his own place! Shaun moved up to the SF Bay Area to start working at a few local breweries, while taking several brewing courses at UC Davis. Shaun eventually teamed up with his business partner Nicco Freccia, and together, they founded the 21st Amendment Brewery and Restaurant. They are one of the few breweries in the country leading the craft beer canning revolution, canning their "Brew Free or Die" IPA, and their "Hell or High Watermelon", which is an American-style Wheat beer brewed with real watermelon juice.
