If you want a quick and easy way to take gravity readings during the brewing process, then a refractometer is the tool for the job. Taking hydrometer readings during the brew tends to be a time-consuming process, and by the time you get a reading it may be too late to react. This is because you need to take a large sample and cool it to get an accurate reading. A refractometer allows you take instant gravity readings, with just one drop, at any point during the boil, or even during the run off of the sparge during an all-grain brew. These 'during the process' readings allow you to add more water or boil longer so you can attain exactly the gravity you desire.
Traditional refractometers without ATC are calibrated to work at 68°F. The ATC function allows you to use the refractometer in an ambient temperature range of 50-86°F (10-30°C). Since your sample is just one drop, and will quickly adjust to the temperature of the refractometer, the temperature of the sample is irrelevant. This unit also comes with a manual calibration knob that is secured with a lock nut. To calibrate place one drop of distilled water on the testing platform and adjust to zero if necessary. The LED light is a handy feature that helps illuminate the sample and make the scale easier to read.

Want an easy-to-use, stainless vessel that ferments and carbonates? This 29L/7.6 Gallon keg has been modified to allow you to do both! The top is fitted with a large 4 inch tri-clamp lid with two ball lock posts and a pressure relief valve. You can use this vessel to ferment, carbonate, serve, or push the beer through a filter. The posts are recessed which allows you to stack these kegs up to 4 high. A 4" T.C. end cap with pre drilled hole is also available (H691), which can be paired with a #3 stopper and airlock. Also consider the Kegmenter Hop Bong Pressure Pack which allows for oxygen-free dry hopping and also features ball lock posts for Gas & Liquid. Depending on how long it will take to consume the finished beer, we recommend using two kegmenters, one for fermentation and one for carbonating and serving. After fermentation, there will be a large trub cake at the bottom of the vessel. Leaving finished beer on the trub for too long (2-3 weeks) may eventually lead to off-flavors. Check out our ball lock jumper line (KEG575) to easily transfer from one kegmenter to the other. Also consider our beer filter kit (FIL40), which will allow you to filter the beer during transfer. The newest wing capper on the market is the Kelly, made by the Ferrari Group in Italy. We love this capper because it is easy to use, has a smooth capping action, a magnet in the capping head to hold crown caps, and solid metal jaws to firmly grasp the bottle. Sized for standard 26 mm crown caps.
