Revised Edition
In the past decade, home coffee roasting has gone from a small but growing trend to an increasingly mainstream audience. Still, for many in the current generation of coffee lovers, roasting remains a mysterious process. In this completely revised, expanded edition of his classic Home Coffee Roasting, James Beard Award nominated Kenneth Davids reveals the secrets to simple, quality home roasting.Home Coffee Roasting provides insightful, easy-to-follow guidelines for every step in the process:? The new home roasters: how to evaluate and use them? A resource guide for green beans and home-roasting equipment? Best techniques for storing green beans? Tips on perfecting a roast? How to create your own blendWith David's charming blend of commentary on coffee, the history of roasting and connoisseurship, how-to instructions, copious illustrations, and an invaluable resource guide, this revised, expanded edition of Home Coffee Roasting is the one necessary book for every true coffee lover.
Notes from Casey "The Coffee Guy":
This book is packed with info and is meaty: lots of detail and info and good sketches of everything talked about. Kenneth Davids is huge in the coffee industry and has been a home roaster for years - since way before home roasting was mainstream (well, it's still not so mainstream...but you understand). He imparts tons of knowledge in this book and adds an interesting dimension to it all: the history of coffee roasting. But keep in mind, this book is centered around roasting, not so much coffee brewing and grinding and the like. This book leaves you with a good knowledge of the history of coffee roasting, different roast styles, a good understanding of the nature of different beans from different regions and the tools available on the market for home roasting (although the Hearthware i-Roast has since become available and isn't covered). If you are interested in getting into home coffee roasting or are already a home roaster and just want to learn more, this is definitely the book for you. Below is the table of contents.

Lightly colored ale with some sweetness from the honey
Our Gluten Free recipes use Sorghum extract for the base fermentables
Includes Kent Goldings and Northern Brewer hops

Estimated IBUs: 15-18

This ale recipe features the use of clover honey, dried rice extract and sorghum. Try adding some dark candi syrup to give it some color.
Gluten-Free beers are a different world when it comes to finding a suitable replacement for the base extract. Celiacs are allergic to the hordein protein found in the base malts such as 2-Row and Pilsner malt.
They are also allergic to the gliadin protein found in wheat which is the biggest offender of the two proteins. As a homebrewer your goal is to find a suitable fermentable that can emulate the maltiness in beer.
Our Gluten Free recipes use Sorghum extract for the base fermentables. Hops aggressively cut through the maltiness from sorghum easily. Hop additions in gluten free beers tend to be 40-50% less than normal.
All our gluten-free kits include dry yeast due to the small traces of the gliadin protein found in liquid yeast. (Although lab research has found the yeast metabolize the gliadin protein after fermentation and significantly reduce the ppm present.)

16-25 °L - Gabrinus Malting® - Honey Malt from Gambrinus. Add for a sweet, nutty and slightly toasted flavor. Good choice in Brown and Special Ales. Aroma is reminiscent of honey, hence the name. Effective flavor contribution from steeping.

We would not have put 3lbs of honey with 7 lbs of malt in a pale ale, but Jim had no fear and did just that. The result - a really nice mix of malt and honey flavors. There is enough honey to make it through into the flavor. Just a little Cascade hops in the beginning and finish keep the flavor emphasis on the honey. He suggests WLP002 because it is less attenuative and leaves more malt behind.

Liquid Malt Extract (LME) vs. Dried Malt Extract (DME)
MoreBeer! recipe kits are offered in both Liquid Malt Extract and Dry Malt Extract so that our customers can choose the format that best suits their needs and brewing style. LME is a viscous liquid, similar in consistency to maple syrup. In addition to being the more affordable option, many brewers find LME easier to handle than dry extract. DME is more condensed and comes in a powder format that is similar to baking flour. Although it’s a little more costly, DME is naturally lighter in color and stays fresher for longer. We highly recommend DME when brewing light colored beers.

Jason, who recently graduated from the American Brewers Guild, now teaches our beginning and advanced brewing classes held every month in Concord, Ca. Jason use to brew up Jim Rossi's Honey-Pale and our B3 Stout and mix them together out of the tap 50/50. Jason decided to take it one step further and started brewing them together. He says "It is a like a Black and Tan" with a honey flavor of course. The beer does not taste like a true stout but is very far from being a Pale Ale. The continually positive response of "wow" from friends and other MoreBeer! customers prompted us to make his unique combination as his own kit, Honey-Stout. Thank you Jason for reminding us that when it comes to beer flavor, there are no rules. Jason recommends English yeast, WLP002.

This carboy thermowell is used in conjunction with a Digital Controller, FE601, FE601A, FE602, or FE611, to more accurately regulate internal temperature during fermentation. It is exceptionally useful during the start of fermentation when the lag between ambient temperature in the refrigerator and actual temperature in the carboy can vary greatly. Now you can keep your beer or wine within one degree of the set point on your digital controller. Designed to fit 3, 5,6, and 6.5 gallon glass smooth neck carboys, as well as 5 and 6 gallon plastic carboys, the unit comes with a 15" stainless steel thermowell and a carboy hood that will accommodate a standard airlock or 1/2 inch blow off tubing.
Will not work with the Analog Johnson Temperature Controller (FE600) because the probe is too large. This unit has been redesigned to work with 2016 Ranco Probes.
TIP: Carboy hoods are exceptionally useful for blowoff tubes. Just add 3' of 1/2" racking tubing into a bucket of water as your airlock.
Inner Diameter of Thermowell: Slightly larger than 1/4"

The Hop Bong is a versatile pressurizable tri-clamp accessory, capable of not only dry hopping oxygen purged hops into fermenters, but also as an inline carbonation/oxygenation accessory. Load up the Hop Bong, flush it with CO2, purge out oxygen with the handy PRV on top, then simply open the Butterfly Valve to inject your beer with a 6 oz payload of dry hops.
If you're an existing FermZilla Conical or All Rounder user and you already own the Pressure Kit with 2x Ball Lock Caps and floating dip tube, check out the Hop Bong Upgrade Kit.
The 3 Pieces of the Hop Bong Pressure Pack:
Pressure Kit
The Pressure Kit includes two Ball Lock Caps with the Floating Dip Tube and Filter Attachment. These pieces allow you to pressure transfer finished beer out of the fermenter into kegs or a bottling bucket, or you can carbonate and serve beer directly from the FermZilla.
Tri-Clamp Pressure Lid
Replacing the standard lid with the FermZilla Tri-Clamp Pressure Lid provides you with a 2" T.C. port at the top of your fermenter. This will give you an opening to add dry hops or other additions without needing to remove the entire lid. Take off the butterfly valve to add your yeast pitch, and when you're ready to add flavoring additions when fermentation is complete, drop them in oxygen-free via the Hop Bong. PCO1881 threaded ports are there for your Ball Lock Caps, as well as undrilled ports for an optional Thermowell and/or Temp Twister cooling coil.
Hop Bong
Load up the Hop Bong and add CO2 to purge your hop charge of oxygen. This kit comes with a third Ball Lock Cap to introduce CO2 directly to the Hop Bong, as well as a pull ring PRV to release pressure and purge oxygen. Once you've flushed your hop charge with CO2, open the butterfly valve to inject your beer with up to 6 oz of hop pellets.
Hop Pellet Capacity: 150–180g (5.2–6.3 oz)
Kit Includes:
FermZilla 2" T.C. Pressure Lid Starter Kit
2" Hop Bong
2" FermZilla Tri-Conical Butterfly Valve
Floating Dip Tube
Weighted Mesh Filter Attachment (KEG6571)
Red PRV & PCO1881 Cap Combo
Yellow Ball Lock Cap
(2) Red Ball Lock Caps
(2) 2" Tri-Clamps
(2) 2" Silicone T.C. Gaskets
KegLand Part Number: KB10897
Installation Note: For best performance, ensure there is not an excess amount of slack when the silicone dip tube is installed and shorten it if needed. With the floating dip tube installed on your empty FermZilla, you ideally want the dip tube to hang freely with just enough length for the end of the dup tube to touch the bottom of the tank.
Warning: Always depressurize your system COMPLETELY before removing fittings from your fermenter.

Load up the Hop Bong, flush it with CO2, purge out oxygen with the handy PRV on top, then simply open the Butterfly Valve to inject your beer with a 6 oz payload of dry hops.
This kit includes the 4" T.C. Pressure Lid to fit the tri-clamp ferule on Kegmenter Fermentation Kegs. The plastic lid also allows for improved KegLand RAPT Pill WiFi reading compared to the Kegmenter fully encasing the Pill in stainless steel.
Due to the large 4" tri-clamp diameter, it is difficult to get higher pressures without leaking. Therefore we suggest using this up to 21 psi. The included Yellow PRV for the Pressure Lid is rated to 17 psi.

If you have a monstrous craving for intense hop flavor, you’ll need a beast of equal proportion to do battle. Enter Hop Mothra! This liquid kaiju isn’t interested in saving (or destroying) Tokyo. Her only motive is to slake your thirst and leave you yearning for more – so much so that you’d swim to Infant Island for another taste. With a nice malt backbone (err thorax?) this beast will soar over your tongue and, with a flap of her wings, send a hurricane of hop flavor to assault your taste buds.
Jim Nielsen’s Hop Mothra IPA uses 2-row for the base and a trio of crystal malts that give this beer a beautiful pale to medium amber color. Perle, Cascade, and Liberty hops lend a spicy aroma with flavors of grape fruit and citrus.
Jim began home brewing in 1994, but it wasn’t until the Great American Beer Festival of ‘98 that he came across a beer that would alter the course of his hobby. Grant’s Brewing Company made a batch of beer especially for the festival – Hopzilla! This beer made such an impression on Jim that he decided to take his passion for home brewing to the next level, and he began his search for a brew system that would allow him to do everything the pros can do. He helped MoreBeer! develop one of our first digitally controlled brew sculptures, and not long after he had brewed his own version of Hopzilla that he (unsurprisingly) enjoyed more than the original – HOP MOTHRA! Raise a glass to Jim, and give thanks for this monster of an IPA.

The classic stitch up hop sock is suitable for dry hopping or steeping grain or spices in the boil. If you have a heat exchanger, we highly recommend bagging your hops if your doing a hazy IPA, DIPA, or any highly hopped recipe, as it may clog your plates or even your pump! Rated up to 110°C (230°F).
Dimensions:
130 mm wide (5.9")
580 mm long (31.4")
KegLand Part Number: KL06767
Suitable for both hops and steeping grains. We highly recommend using a steeping bag for hops to keep vegetal matter contained in the boil kettle and out of your fermenter. If you use a counterflow chiller or plate chiller for cooling, filtering hops is even more important as these devices can clog if too much hop matter passes through them.
The hop sock does not have a drawstring. You will want to tie the end in a knot to keep it closed.
Dimensions:
150 mm wide (5.9")
800 mm long (31.4")
KegLand Part Number: KL01281
Keep vegetal matter contained and out of your fermenter with the Hop Spider mesh filter
Sits directly in your boil kettle allowing hop oils to be directly infused into your wort
Kettle hanger can be bent and adjusted to dial in the height at which the filter sits inside your kettle
Holds up to 12 oz of hop pellets
Made from 304 stainless steel
The hop spider is stainless steel mesh hop filter that hangs from the the edge of your kettle. Up to 12 oz of hops are poured directly into the spider during the boil. Made from 304 stainless steel. The basket is 13.75 in (35cm) high with the opening at the top being 5.9 in (15cm) diameter and tapers down to a 3.9 in (10cm) diameter at the bottom. 0.4 mm aperture mesh.
Kegland Part Number: KL04688
Perfect for growing hops at home! The twine gives the hops a sturdy foundation to crawl up towards the sun. Clips easily anchor the twine to the ground.
Includes:
5 lengths of Hop Twine
5 count of Twine Clips
The Spring Eye Clip is an anchoring device that is used to anchor hop twine to the ground. These can be pushed into the ground by hand, removing the need for a hop clip applicator tool. As an added benefit, they also allow for adjustment of tension of the twine, which is not possible when using traditional clips.
Sold in bundles of 5 clips.
Hop Twine is a paper twine cut to 20.5 ft. with a tested strength of 100 lbs. Paper based strings are used for hop training and are a popular option for home-growers and commercial growers alike. Made of wound paper, they have a perfectly rough surface for the hop bines to cling to. Best paired with spring eye clips for easy placement as twine is for above ground use only.
Sold in bundles of 5 strings.

Used on a commercial brewing system to shut off electricty or gas before the kettle runs dry. This horizontal float switch conveniently fits into a 1.5" tri-clamp port. It is designed to control the run-dry circuit in an electric brewing system. The contacts are intended to control a relay, contactor, or SSR and should not be used to interrupt full power to an electric element/burner.
50W. The unit is not fit to use on a circuit load, but suitable for signal output.
Quickly and easily add decorative heat shrinks to wine bottles. Horizontal Heat Shrink units make it easier to center the bottle neck inside the heating element, and are safer to use due to the shielding around the heating element.
Features:
700W Heating Element
Enamel Coated Body
Height Adjustable Heating Element adapts to different bottle diameters
110V with on/off switch.
2.25 in Coil Diameter
Replacement elbow fitting for the H308 diaphragm pump. This fitting is typically only used on the pump outlet, but can also be placed on the inlet in lieu of the Pre-Filter. Please note that doing so puts the pump head at increased risk of damage from particulate matter.
