White Labs Yeast | WLP590 French Saison Ale | Beer Yeast | PurePitch® Next Generation | Industry Leading Viability | 150 Billion Cells

WLP590 is one of White Labs' most popular saison strain. Recommended for saison, Belgian pale ale, and Biere de Garde Produces flavors and aromas of pear, apple and cracked pepper PurePitch® Next Generation offers a precise cell count across all strains so you can calculate the exact pitch rate you need for every batch Scan the barcode on the back of the package and enter your wort stats into the Pitch Rate Calculator White Labs Yeast has been producing high-quality brewer's yeast since 1995 and continues to raise the bar in the art of fermentation Don't need a full package? Put the lid back on and store in the refrigerator for your next batch! WLP590 is a unique yeast strain producing farmhouse-style beers with a phenolic “bite” and moderate ester compounds. French Saison Ale produces a cleaner aroma profile than other farmhouse styles—this yeast is versatile and highly attenuating. The most popular saison strain in the White Labs Tasting Room. Works well in saisons, farmhouse ales, and a range of both French and Belgian style ales as well. PurePitch® Next Generation—now with more yeast, get a foolproof fermentation without a starter! Just twist the cap & pitch! Why PurePitch Next Gen versus other options? Typically yeast manufacturers use a range for how many yeast cells are going into each package. This can vary widely, especially from strain to strain. Next Gen offers a far more precise cell count across all strains allowing you to use the Whitelabs exclusive pitch calculator. Simply scan the barcode on the back of each package to be taken to their online calculator. Enter the volume, strength, and pitching temperature of the wort you are fermenting and the calculator tells you exactly how much yeast to pitch. You will be fermenting like a professional brewer, using the same concentration of yeast every time and enjoying more consistent results. Don't need a full package? Put the lid back on and store in the refrigerator for your next batch. Whitelabs has also increased the viability (the number of living cells in the package) over the shelf life of the yeast. Next Gen strains are grown in their unique, small-batch reactors to assure freshness and then packaged in a special film that allows for off-gassing, assuring that their viability is absolutely industry leading. Attenuation: 78-85% Flocculation: Medium Alcohol Tolerance: 15%+ ABV Optimum Fermentation Temp: 68-85°F Cell Count: 150 Billion For best results we always recommend ordering an ice pack with your liquid yeast. Please Note: When choosing an ice pack option beware that the liquid yeast will not arrive cold even when shipped together. Ice packs and insulated mailing options are designed to keep the yeast colder for longer during shipment, but they will not ensure that your yeast arrives cold. We will not replace liquid yeast that arrives warm. During warmer months we strongly recommend you choose dry yeast.

    1 review

WLP925 can ferment lager beers in only one week when used under pressure at room temperature Sulfur production is strong the first two days, then disappears by day five PurePitch® Next Generation offers a precise cell count across all strains so you can calculate the exact pitch rate you need for every batch Scan the barcode on the back of the package and enter your wort stats into the Pitch Rate Calculator White Labs Yeast has been producing high-quality brewer's yeast since 1995 and continues to raise the bar in the art of fermentation Don't need a full package? Put the lid back on and store in the refrigerator for your next batch! WLP925 from White Labs is ideal for fermenting under pressure. When beer is fermented under pressure, it allows for the production of a clean flavor profile, even when fermenting a lager at room temperature. Fermenting under pressure is advantageous in that it reduces ester and fusel alcohol production, reduces or negates the possibility of oxidation, carbonates the beer during fermentation and allows you to ferment warmer than you would otherwise. Use to ferment lager beer in one week! Ferment at room temperature (62-68°F) under 1.0 bar (14.7 PSI) until final gravity is obtained, generally in one week. Lager the beer at 35°F, 15 PSI, for 3-5 days, to condition. Sulfur production is strong first 2 days, then disappears by day 5. Do not need to carbonate, since at 1 bar entire time. PurePitch® Next Generation—now with more yeast, get a foolproof fermentation without a starter! Just twist the cap & pitch! Why PurePitch Next Gen versus other options? • Agar (2 oz)

    Malt Agar - 2 oz.

    1 review

Pharmaceutical grade dry agar for making plates and slants. 2 oz will make up approximately 4000 ml of liquid agar. BK580, First Steps In Yeast Culturing, is a great reference if you do not have prior experience working with agar. For lab use, use 12 grams to make 1 liter of solid agar, which is way more than even a big laboratory uses. You need a very accurate scale to measure that out. You want to dissolve the agar slowly in the water or wort for a few minutes. Then heat gently till you get to a boil. Be very careful of not boiling over, if you do it's best to throw that boil out as your water to agar ratio is off and you will not get a good medium. Boil for a few minutes and then divide out to sterilize.

It is a clean fermenting yeast and has tolerated temperatures up to 95°F (35°C) while finishing fermentation within three to four days. The hop-forward, clean characteristics of this strain make it ideal for IPAs and pale ales. Attenuation: 69-80% Flocculation: Medium to High Alcohol Tolerance: 15%+ ABV Optimum Fermentation Temp: 77-95°F Cell Count: 150 Billion For best results we always recommend ordering an ice pack with your liquid yeast.

Homebrew Starter Kits Collection Article +

Test

Can I make a starter with WLP200 +

Yes! The difference in growth rate between California and Engilsh is pretty minimal so doing a starter won't change the population ratio.

Why buy a starter kit from MoreBeer!? +

We also offer free shipping on all orders over $59, meaning that all of our starter kits ship to any address in the lower 48 United States for free!

What is the advantage of a yeast starter? +

We build starters for 3 main reasons. First, to ensure yeast health. By making a starter 1-3 days in advance, you ensure that your yeast is healthy and strong and ready to do its job. Second, to create more yeast. By making the starter you will increase the cell count of the yeast, giving you a better chance of keeping bacteria's and wild yeasts from fermenting your wort. Third, if you are making high gravity beers. If you are making a high gravity beer (1.060+) you will need more yeast to start the ferment faster. High gravity beers will also finish more completely when you pitch ample quantities of yeast. More information on the subject: Before yeast start to convert sugars to alcohol, they go through two stages of respiration. It is during this time that they are building their cell walls up to be strong and healthy. As soon as the yeast eat all the oxygen in the wort, their cells tell them to switch to eating sugars. It is at this point that we as brewers want the yeast to be introduced into the wort so there is a minimal lag time. A starter will do two things for you: one, it will allow the yeast a media in which to "wake up", and two, it will allow the yeast a good environment for multiplication. The more hungry, healthy, and viable yeast cells you have, the faster fermentation begins, and the cleaner the flavors that are produced.

How long will my lager fermentation last? +

It depends on the yeast strain and temperature conditions, but you can expect fermentation with a lager to be done within four weeks. This is not a hard and fast rule. You may have fermentation that is done in as little as two weeks as well. We recommend a minimum primary fermentation at 48-50F for three weeks and a diacetyl rest for three days at 54F. For all lagers it is best to make a yeast starter 48 hours in advance to give your yeast time to replicate in preparation for a cold environment. Don't be alarmed if you don't see krausen (foam) for 2-3 days after pitching yeast this is normal behavior for lager yeast.

At what temperature should I add a lager yeast? +

There are two methods of pitching lager yeasts. Brewers use both methods with success, but each brewer tends to have a preferred approach. A) Starting Warm then Cool Down. This is the easiest method for the average homebrewer. Pitch yeast at 60-65F, reduce the wort temperature 10F per each 12 hours until reaching the desired fermentation temperature of 48-54F. This method works well without forming high amounts of esters because most esters are produced after the first 12 hours. B) Starting Cold using Twice the Yeast, or use a Yeast Starter to "Quick-Start" Fermentation. Pitch four vials of yeast at the recommended fermentation temperature (48-54F). Or, use a Yeast Starter (see next page), to make a 1-2 liter yeast starter per each 5 gallons. Lager yeast ferment well at this temperature, but they grow very slowly. If you use this method, fermentation activity won't show for 48-72 hours. Cli

At what temperature should I ferment my beer? +

First we need to know whether you are fermenting an ale or a lager. An ale will typically be best at a temperature of 62-72 degrees. Most ales excluding Belgians ferment cleaner beer at the lower end around 62-66F. A lager will typically ferment best between 48 to 54 degrees. Those are just ranges in which most ales or lagers will perform appropriately. There are no exceptions where certain ale yeast can ferment below 62 degrees and there are certain lager yeasts which can ferment above 55 degrees. Every yeast has a recommended temperature range. We suggest you research your yeast strain before fermenting to understand its temperament. Get to know your yeast! They're our friends!
