Rhizomes should be planted immediately for best results. If your area is still experiencing frost then you can plant them in a planter indoors until it is safe to transplant outside. The first years crop will generally be smaller than subsequent years. Since these are live plants, we cannot guarantee they will grow, so we recommend buying two of each type to help ensure their success.
Shipping Restrictions:
Due to agricultural restrictions, we can only ship rhizomes to addresses that are in the United States, excepting Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, and the counties of Bonner and Kootenai in Idaho. Unfortunately, we cannot ship these to international locations including APO/FPO addresses.

Liquid Malt Extract (LME) vs. Dried Malt Extract (DME)
MoreBeer! recipe kits are offered in both Liquid Malt Extract and Dry Malt Extract so that our customers can choose the format that best suits their needs and brewing style. LME is a viscous liquid, similar in consistency to maple syrup. In addition to being the more affordable option, many brewers find LME easier to handle than dry extract. DME is more condensed and comes in a powder format that is similar to baking flour. Although it’s a little more costly, DME is naturally lighter in color and stays fresher for longer. We highly recommend DME when brewing light colored beers.

If you have a monstrous craving for intense hop flavor, you’ll need a beast of equal proportion to do battle. Enter Hop Mothra! This liquid kaiju isn’t interested in saving (or destroying) Tokyo. Her only motive is to slake your thirst and leave you yearning for more – so much so that you’d swim to Infant Island for another taste. With a nice malt backbone (err thorax?) this beast will soar over your tongue and, with a flap of her wings, send a hurricane of hop flavor to assault your taste buds.
Jim Nielsen’s Hop Mothra IPA uses 2-row for the base and a trio of crystal malts that give this beer a beautiful pale to medium amber color. Perle, Cascade, and Liberty hops lend a spicy aroma with flavors of grape fruit and citrus.
Jim began home brewing in 1994, but it wasn’t until the Great American Beer Festival of ‘98 that he came across a beer that would alter the course of his hobby. Grant’s Brewing Company made a batch of beer especially for the festival – Hopzilla! This beer made such an impression on Jim that he decided to take his passion for home brewing to the next level, and he began his search for a brew system that would allow him to do everything the pros can do. He helped MoreBeer! develop one of our first digitally controlled brew sculptures, and not long after he had brewed his own version of Hopzilla that he (unsurprisingly) enjoyed more than the original – HOP MOTHRA! Raise a glass to Jim, and give thanks for this monster of an IPA.

This BrewMaster Series kit was scaled down to a homebrew batch size in collaboration with the brewmasters at Barebottle Brewing Company This light and refreshing lager has a Mexican pilsner framework with a German Helles twist Includes Crystal and Saaz hops Estimated ABV: 4.7% Estimated IBUs: 18 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer The most compelling stories always have a twist. Barebottle's award-winning Torcido is a Mexican pilsner with a German Helles twist. Combining these styles results in a light and refreshing lager that would make even M. Night Shyamalan do a double take. Originally developed by Barebottle brewer John "Magic" Montes De Oca, Torcido Torcido took gold in the International Pilsener category of the 2019 Great American Beer Fest and in turn became the inaugural inductee into the Viking Malt Hall of Fame. Brewed with Viking Pilsner, flaked corn, a dash of Carahell®, and hopped with two additions of Crystal and Saaz. Barebottle Brewing Company was born in San Francisco, CA with the idea that craft brewing shouldn't adhere to the strict guidelines of established beer styles. Founded by a trio of friends and former classmates, they continue to pay homage to their homebrewing roots by printing a scaled down version of their recipe on every label. If you ever see one of their creations out in the wild, we highly recommend that you buy it, drink it, and then brew it! Dark Hill Porter is a tribute to one of our favorite west coast porters. This Black Butte Porter clone, commercially brewed by Deschutes Brewery in Oregon, is one of the most well-rounded porters out there. Being bittered with Bravo hops helps to initially balance the malty backbone, but that bitterness fades quickly, providing a smooth transition into the complex flavors of four different character malts. This combination of Wheat, Carapils, Crystal 120L, and Chocolate malts create a rounded mouthfeel and chocolate flavor.

We recently had a simple, yet exciting idea: What if we brewed the same recipe, used the same yeast, but changed one thing - the flavor, aroma, and dry hop additions using one hop varietal. That way we could take two beers that are close to identical and pick out the differences in just the hop flavors and aromas! And thus, the Single Hop Experiment was born. This recipe is based off of a simple Pale Ale: Ultralight malt extract, Crystal 15L, Magnum bittering hops, and then a single other hop for the rest of the additions. The malt in this recipe is basic and fairly neutral, the bittering clean and consistent, but the flavor and aroma from the late hop additions will vary; sometimes dramatically! Ever wanted to know what your favorite hop really is? Brew a few of these different Single Hop Experiment recipes to find out!

Our clone recipe of Sierra Nevada's Hop Hunter IPA a tasty, easy drinking and highly aromatic beer spiked with El Dorado hop oil
Includes Bravo™, Cascade, Crystal, and Simcoe® hops
Estimated ABV: 6.2%
Estimated IBUs: 60

Hop Hunter IPA by Sierra Nevada brewing is the inspiration for this delicious recipe. Hop Gatherer is a Hop Hunter clone, which contains all of the same ingredients as the original beer, but gives you the option of what distilled oil you would like to use. We offer the kit with either Chinook or El Dorado farm distilled hop oil. Either way, this makes a tasty, easy drinking and highly aromatic IPA!
A bit about farm distilled hop oil: Distilled immediatley after picking, farm distilled hop oil gives you the bursting aroma provided by fresh hops. By distilling the oil at the farm, the distinct character of a "wet hop" beer is able to be replicated year round. The oil can be added post fermentation, typically at bottling. You can even add the oil directly to your glass! Be careful, it is VERY POTENT!
Light in color and incredibly smooth, this IPA is enjoyed by all. Not too bitter, but absolutely hoppy enough to please the biggest hop head!

Our Irish Red Ale recipe is hard to nail down as any specific style—similar to a big Amber Ale, but it's so unusual it does not really fit within any category. Malt character utterly dominates this beer's flavor profile, containing dark Crystal malts, including Special B, and a pinch of Roasted Barley for a deep, red color and a very distinctive caramel flavor. Irish Red Ale has been one of our most popular ingredient kits for many years, and continues to receive a lot of positive feedback from satisfied customers to this day.

Originally developed by Barebottle brewer John "Magic" Montes De Oca, Torcido took gold in the International Pilsener category of the 2019 Great American Beer Fest and in turn became the inaugural inductee into the Viking Malt Hall of Fame. The extract Torcido clone recipe is brewed with pilsen extract, flaked corn, a dash of Carahell®, and hopped with two additions of Crystal and Saaz. Hard Seltzer Flash Brewing® Kit
Flash Seltzer is a simplified system for producing clean, low-calorie hard seltzer with a strong focus on clean fermentation and minimal off-flavors. Sugar-based fermentations lack the natural nutrients found in beer and wine. This kit pairs Flash Yeast with CellarScience Dynamo 800, a nutrient formulated specifically for seltzer fermentation.
Dynamo 800 supplies the nitrogen yeast need to ferment efficiently in sugar-only environments, supporting a clean-fermenting process that helps minimize the risk of sulfur, fusel alcohols, and other off-flavors. Fermentation can finish in as few as 5 days.
Flash Brewing® Kits
Introducing MoreBeer!'s Flash Brewing® Kits! Designed for both novice and seasoned homebrewers, these innovative recipe kits allow you to simply mix the ingredients with water and add yeast for fermentation. This streamlined process not only saves you valuable time but also simplifies brewing without sacrificing flavor. Say hello to a faster, easier way to craft exceptional beer at home.
Typically, brewing requires you to boil your malt and hops for one hour, followed by another hour for cooling. Flash Brewing® eliminates the need to boil. Our Flash Brewing® malt recipes have been boiled and whirlpooled before they are dried. We then use a HopBite™ shot for bitterness combined with a mix of traditional hop pellets for flavor. Flash Yeast™ starts quickly and consistently produces clean beer that lets the malt and hops shine. The result is a high-quality beer that will absolutely surprise you.
If you want to read more about the development of Flash Brewing® at MoreBeer! or have more questions please read our Frequently Asked Questions.
Equipment Required for Flash Brewing®
Flash Brews can be fermented in any wide mouth 6 or 7-gallon fermenter you already own. We suggest a wide mouth fermenter so you can easily pour in the ingredients. The 7-gallon Fermonster fermenter is a perfect choice. If you are new to brewing and need a fermentation kit, see below.
