9 °L - Weyermann® - Although similar to standard Munich malt, dark Munich will add quite a bit of color and a very strong malt flavor to your beer. A great malt to be incorporated into your darker lager recipes. Approximately 8-10° L in color.

5.1-7 °L - Weyermann® - To increase body, aroma, malty sweetness and a slight biscuit flavor. A great reason to do mini-mashing or all grain brewing. This malt contains about half the enzyme potential of 2-row malt, which is enough to self convert in a mash. It can be steeped in an extract brew to achieve some of the flavor contribution, but will not add any sugars in a steep.
This is a must malt if you looking to construct a true European-style lager.
4.6 - 8.0 ° L - BestMalz - Increases beer color, mouth feel and malt character. Used in dark, aromatic and full-bodied lagers such as Märzens, Oktoberfests, Bocks and Double Bocks. Can be used 100% of the grist. In some classic beer styles such as continental lagers, the use of Munich malt is usually essential if the brewer is to achieve the required malt character and mouthfeel.

Use to help replicate the maltiness and mouthfeel found in decoction mashes. Could be overpowering if used as more than 20% of the grain bill. Must be mashed. Jonathan Plise has been making beer since the year 2000 - his first batch being a porter that was less than drinkable. He then spent the next few years researching and developing his recipes, fermentation regimen, and sanitation - Jonathan's most dramatic improvements came when he learned about oxygen and yeast starters. In 2006 he was awarded California Homebrewer of the Year sponsored by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
Jonathan's Munich Helles is rich and complex. The malt is upfront and smooth, while being anchored by the low hop additions. He has won 9 awards with this recipe, including one Best of Show and a Gold at the NHC in 2005. Jonathan recommends White Labs WLP833 German Bock Yeast.

This is my personal favorite when it comes to German lager strains. It could be my family association with Bamburg and the excellent rauchbier that this creates, or it could be the rich malt complexity that this strain delivers. Excellent for both helles lagers and more rich and malty lagers, such as maibocks, marzens, vienna lagers and doppelbocks. As a beer geek, I swear that you will love this strain if you enjoy a good German lager!

For best results we always recommend ordering an ice pack with your liquid yeast.
Please Note: When choosing an ice pack option beware that the liquid yeast will not arrive cold even when shipped together. Ice packs and insulated mailing options are designed to keep the yeast colder for longer during shipment, but they will not ensure that your yeast arrives cold. We will not replace liquid yeast that arrives warm. During warmer months we strongly recommend you choose dry yeast.

White Labs Yeast has been producing high-quality brewer's yeast since 1995 and continues to raise the bar in the art of fermentation Don't need a full package? Put the lid back on and store in the refrigerator for your next batch! From the oldest operating brewery in Munich. Carefully cultivated and preserved by brewing monks observing time-honored traditions, this strain is renowned for its clean, crisp fermentation balanced by a distinct malty sweetness. Whether you're brewing a Märzen with its rich, toasty notes, a Helles with its golden brilliance, or a Bock with its full-bodied complexity, this yeast can do it all - a dependable and versatile strain, sure to be a new favorite for lagers. PurePitch® Next Generation—now with more yeast, get a foolproof fermentation without a starter! Just twist the cap & pitch! Why PurePitch Next Gen versus other options? Typically yeast manufacturers use a range for how many yeast cells are going into each package. This can vary widely, especially from strain to strain. Next Gen offers a far more precise cell count across all strains allowing you to use the Whitelabs exclusive pitch calculator. Simply scan the barcode on the back of each package to be taken to their online calculator. Enter the volume, strength, and pitching temperature of the wort you are fermenting and the calculator tells you exactly how much yeast to pitch. You will be fermenting like a professional brewer, using the same concentration of yeast every time and enjoying more consistent results. Don't need a full package? Put the lid back on and store in the refrigerator for your next batch. Whitelabs has also increased the viability (the number of living cells in the package) over the shelf life of the yeast. Next Gen strains are grown in their unique, small-batch reactors to assure freshness and then packaged in a special film that allows for off-gassing, assuring that their viability is absolutely industry leading. Liquid Malt Extract (LME) vs. Dried Malt Extract (DME)
MoreBeer! recipe kits are offered in both Liquid Malt Extract and Dry Malt Extract so that our customers can choose the format that best suits their needs and brewing style. LME is a viscous liquid, similar in consistency to maple syrup. In addition to being the more affordable option, many brewers find LME easier to handle than dry extract. DME is more condensed and comes in a powder format that is similar to baking flour. Although it’s a little more costly, DME is naturally lighter in color and stays fresher for longer. We highly recommend DME when brewing light colored beers.

Highly drinkable, malt-forward beer with a slight toasty nose from Munich malt
Includes Northern Brewer hops
Estimated ABV: 8%
Estimated IBUs: 19-22
Makes 5 gallons of finished beer
The "Original Gatoraid", Bière de Garde was said to give the French and Belgian farmer a much needed boost of energy during the day, due to the low alcohol and relatively high residual sugar content. Our version has a bit more malt than tradition dictates, but we think you will find this beer highly drinkable. The malt is the focus of this style of beer, with a slight toasty nose from the Munich. A yeasty character is not uncommon, and is achieved by an extended period of contact with the yeast bed – some commercial breweries go for up to six weeks! This should be fermented at 64°F.

Where do German Malts and English Hops exist side by side in peace and unlikely harmony. In our BKG Bomb of an IPA! This big brusing beer, with an amazing mouth feel from copius amounts of Munich Malt Extract, is big on deep malt flavor and big on alcohol. It is the antithesis of todays super citrusy hopped, pale colored IPAs. This is all about malt, malt, malt and how British Kent Goldings (BKG) hops blend oh so well with a malt heavy beer. British Kent Goldings are the most prized ale hops in England and known for their subtle nature and floral aromas that really compliment malt flavors. Do you need a little extra sustenance to make it through the winter? Do you like to slice your beer with a knife? Do you need a break from over-the-top hopped IPA's? If you answered yes to any of these questions, The BKG Bomb IPA II should be your next beer.
Features 9 lbs of Munich Malt Extract along with an extra pound of light Dried Malt Extract. As if that was not enough we also include Maltodextrin for body building. You'll be hard-pressed to find a beer that tastes as fresh as this! Modeled after one of Deschutes Brewery's most popular offerings, Fresh Pressed IPA is packed with juicy, tropical aromas and citrusy flavor. A sturdy backbone of 2-Row, Munich and Crystal provides a malt sweetness and a trace of caramel that perfectly counter-balances the hop bitterness. Fear not, no fruit was harmed in in the development of this clone. Just hops… those got squashed into oblivion.

Estimated ABV: 4.9%

A truly tranquil beer, the Glass Lake Pale Ale is our take on the Deschutes Brewery Mirror Pond Pale Ale. The grains included are pretty simple: base malt with a small amount of Carapils, Munich, and Crystal 10L, the lightest Crystal malt we offer. Cascade is the only hop varietal in this recipe, being used from bittering all the way to the dry hop addition!
The result is a very smooth and balanced beer, complete with the classic floral, citrus & grapefruit aromas and flavors that Cascade hops are so well known for.

Attenuation: 70-76% Flocculation: Medium Alcohol Tolerance: 5-10% ABV Optimum Fermentation Temp: 48-55°F Cell Count: 150 Billion For best results we always recommend ordering an ice pack with your liquid yeast.
