Description

An extra long 36" hardwood maple mash paddle with a sanded finish made for MoreBeer!. The extra length gives you needed leverage to really stir a thick heavy mash from 5 to 20 gallons. The more common size on the market is a 28" non-sanded paddle... for the extra $10 you will love how this paddle feels in your hand.

Hand carved in the USA by a artisanal wood worker our mash paddle has a very smooth, sanded finish but is oil free so as not to transfer any foam killing oils into your beer.  Small circular hole at top of handle allows for easy hanging in your brewery.

How wide and long is the business end of this paddle?
Mike Goetzke on May 19, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Paddle end is about 11" long x 3" wide x 3/4" thick. Holes are 1-3/4" diameter. I like the smooth design of the end. I use a brew basket, the smooth, rounded end doesn't gouge into the mesh like a stainless flat paddle or or wooden paddle made with dowels.
Has anyone used this paddle in a Grainfather?
Arthur Anderson on Nov 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi Arthur - The item i've attached will work perfect with your application.

Good paddle but could be better
This is a nice paddle but as others have said, the finish is not great. If I wanted a wood working project, I would have built one myself. For the $50 dollar cost, you can get a hand crafted one on Etsy, which is what I should have done. I was ordering other items and added this on but I should have been more patient and ordered this elsewhere. I will sand this down and use as it is easier than hassling with the return but my advice, skip this one until MoreBeer finds a better manufacturer.

Round smooth end protects brew baskets
I use a stainless brew basket for mashing. The round smooth end doesn't gouge the basket mesh like a flat metal paddle or paddle made of dowels. Measurements: Paddle end 11" long x 3" wide X 3/4" thick. Holes are 1-3/4" diameter.

Great Mash Paddle but Labor Required
I bought this paddle for my new stainless brew system and wanted something that would not damage my kettle and would be big enough to handle 10g batches easily.

This paddle is a great size and feels good in your hands.

My only complaint is that when I received the paddle the finish was very poor and there were chunks of wood splintered off as well as poor finish on many edges. I spent 20-30 minutes sanding it down with 400 grit sandpaper and it was ready for use. There are still some gouges and chunks out but I am no longer concerned with wood splintering into my hands or wort being trapped in pockets.

For $50 I wouldn't expect to have to finish it before use. If not for this I would give this 5 stars.

Fantastic Mash Paddle!
I brew on a keggle system. My stainless spoon was always a pain. The mash paddle is a perfect size and cranks through a large and small mashes with no trouble! Highly recommended!

Much better than my stainless steel paddle
I started all grain brewing making 5 gallon batched stirred with a slotted spoon. I then switched to a 26" whisk that worked better. I moved up to 10 gallon batches, then 16 gallon and switched to a stainless steel paddle with holes. It worked great but I was always looking at the wood paddles wondering how they would work. I finally bought one and it is the best! It moves through the mash easier and does a better job of breaking up any clumps. Highly recommended!

Worth the $
I had been using a cheap plastic paddle and/or a SS spoon. This paddle is well worth the money and performs much superior - dough balls have been eliminated.

Excellent!
You need to buy one of these. My last brew was 25 pounds of grain in a Blichmann pot. Doughed in half followed by other half. Works flawlessly. Total dough-in time less than 5 minutes. Great quality. Cleans up easy. Also used to mix in my water salts. Should have bought this years ago.

Works great
I bought this so I wouldn't have to stir my mash with my spoon anymore. It breaks through the grain unbelievably well. My last grain bill was 14 pounds; I added all the grain at once and managed to stir through it all with little effort.
