2-Row Xtra Pale Malt - Viking Malt
Experience the 3G Difference Reduce Staling & Improve Shelf Life — A null-lox malt bred without lipoxygenase enzymes, preventing the oxidative reactions that cause staling. Reduced DMS — Contains up to 60% less S-methylmethionine (SMM), reducing DMS potential for cleaner flavor and enabling faster, more efficient boils. Amazing Flavor — Clean, crisp, and balanced. In blind tastings, brewers consistently preferred it to other 2-row base malts. Versatile — Highly modified for easy conversion and kilned like a pilsner malt for an extra-light 1.7–1.9 °L color, making it ideal for everything from lagers to hop-forward ales. Real innovation in base malt is rare. Viking 3G Xtra Pale represents a revolutionary step forward, engineered to give you a distinct advantage in quality, efficiency, and cost. This premium European malt uses naturally bred, null-LOX barley that actively prevents oxidative staling, keeping your beer fresher, longer. We’ve also engineered it with up to 60% less SMM (the precursor to DMS), ensuring a cleaner, purer flavor profile while enabling faster, more energy-efficient boils. The result? A superior, brewer-preferred malt that delivers the performance of a premium import at the price of a domestic. Stand out without driving up costs. 1.9 °L - Viking Malt - Xtra Pale is a modern 2-row base malt designed for very light-colored ales. While it works great as the base malt for any ale, it is particularly perfect for today’s extra light colored pale ales and IPAs. Xtra pale is germinated like a pale malt to have a high degree of modification for easy brew house conversion. However, it is then uniquely Kilned like a pilsner malt for a very light color in the 1.7 to 1.9 Lovibond range. The result is a malt that easily and quickly converts like a true pale ale malt, but is as light or lighter than most Pilsner malts. Morebeer! Pro worked with Viking to design this malt based on numerous customer requests. Unique light-colored barley varietals were chosen and the germination and kilning processes were selected to get the best of both worlds. Compared to other 2-row base malts on the market that were originally designed for big breweries, and are neither true Pilsner or true Pale Malts, Xtra Pale was specifically designed for light, craft-brewed ales. American Honey Pale Ale | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain
This ale will deliver a smooth blend of Cascade floral character and biterness, tempered by a slight sweetness from the honey Includes 100% Cascade hops Estimated ABV: 6% Estimated IBUs: 40 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer In 2011, the White House home brewed beer for the first time in, well, perhaps centuries! We were super were excited when a MoreBeer! customer first submitted his freedom of information act request for the White House homebrew recipes. We were a little surprised, and we'll say it - let down - when we saw the actual recipes. One MoreBeer! staffer blurted out "Whoa...this seems like beer that Prince Harry should be brewing." English malt extract, English hops, and even an English yeast strain were used; so the only thing truly American was the honey! It seems that we were not the only beer lovers to pick up on this. So while we really, really love English beers as much as the next homebrewer, we think the Commander In Chief of America and his White House Brewmasters should be using fresh ingredients from well...America. Since we were tweaking the recipe towards this side of the pond, we decided we could also help educate the White House staff on their yeast selection. Yes dry yeast has gotten better but since its for the White House and all, we think they can spring for liquid yeast...and is there any better choice for this recipe than Wyeast 1056 AMERICAN Ale or White Labs 001 California Ale?? Not really. In fact, just queue up the star spangled banner, turn on the football game, and throw some hot dogs on the grill because we are starting to feel pretty patriotic here. So while we send this kit along with our friendly suggestions back to the White House, YOU can make the exact same beer at home. That way if you are in a diner somewhere on the campaign trail and the president pulls up you can whip out a bottle of the 'Honey Pale the White House Should Be Making' or the 'Honey Porter the White House Should Be Making' and enlighten the Top Dog, homebrewer style. This American Honey Pale Ale uses all American ingredients, including: White Wheat, Crystal 15L, and 2-Row grown in the USA Cascade hops California Wildflower Honey Truly a classic American Pale Ale recipe! This ale will deliver a smooth blend of Cascade floral character and biterness, tempered by a slight sweetness from the honey. The California Wildflower Honey delivers just enough residual sweetness to result in an amazingly balanced, hoppily delicious pale ale. Firestone Walker Brewing Company Pale 31® Ale | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract
This BrewMaster Series kit was scaled down to a homebrew batch size in collaboration with the brewmasters at Firestone Walker Brewing Company Light in body and color, but strong in hop flavor and aroma Includes Fuggles, Chinook, Cascade, and Centennial hops Estimated ABV: 4.5% Estimated IBUs: 13 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Fact: Firestone Walker has been named "Mid-Size Brewery of the Year" four times. Another fact: Pale 31 has won 10 Gold Medals since 2003 (yeah, that's one a year!). The Pale 31 California Pale Ale is what some refer to as "The Perfect American Pale Ale". Light in body and color, but strong in hop flavor and aroma, this is one of those beers that most beer lovers will always want on tap. After having one, you'll most likely want another, and being under 5% ABV makes this a little more possible! The recipe consists of our ultralight liquid malt extract, Munich malt, and dextrin for added mouthfeel. The hops are a perfect blend of Fuggles, Chinook, Cascade and Centennial. Firestone Walker's head brewer Matt Brynildson had worked on his Pale Ale recipe for a long time before being perfectly satisfied. We know that once you taste this beer, you'll agree with us that his hard work has definitely paid off! Don't forget to purchase The Brewing Network's "The Perfect American Pale Ale" DVD too! Honey Pale Ale by Jim Rossi | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract
Our Signature Series kits offer a selection of crazy, unique beers developed by MoreBeer! customers, associates, and homebrewing legends! Lightly hopped with loads of honey to penetrate through the malty flavor profile Includes 100% Cascade hops Estimated ABV: 4.7% Estimated IBUs: 13-17 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer We would not have put 3 lbs of honey with 4.5 lbs of malt extract in a pale ale, but Jim had no fear and did just that. The result - a really nice mix of malt and honey flavors. There is enough honey to make it through into the flavor. Just a little Cascade hops in the beginning and finish keep the flavor emphasis on the honey. He suggests WLP002 because it is less attenuative and leaves more malt behind. Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity: 1.047-52 SRM (Color Range): 5-6 IBUs: 13-17 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 4.7% Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. Pale Ale by Frank Ellis | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | All-Grain
Our Signature Series kits offer a selection of crazy, unique beers developed by MoreBeer! customers, associates, and homebrewing legends! This recipe displays the malt, alcohol and hoppiness of an IPA but with the bitterness of a Pale Ale Includes Willamette and Cascade hops Estimated ABV: 5.8% Estimated IBUs: 39-42 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer The legendary Frank Ellis, Grandfather of our Signature Series Kits, brings you his over the top Pale Ale with an amazing 7 oz of hops and 9 lbs of malt extract. It has the malt, alcohol and hoppiness of an IPA but the bitterness of a Pale Ale. Frank started with our American Pale Ale II, KIT250 – but this wasn’t enough flavor for Frank. So he added one pound of malt extract, more finish hops, followed by... yet more finish hops! The resulting flavor is malty with plenty of hop flavor, courtesy of the copious amounts of Cascade and Willamette hops. One day while on the phone placing an order with us, Frank got tired of having to make these additions to our existing KIT250 so he asked why he couldn’t have his own kit to cut down on confusion. He was absolutely right! So the series was born! When you are drinking any of the Signature Series recipes, raise your glass and give a virtual cheers to fellow homebrewer Frank Ellis in Missouri for the good idea. Frank has brewed his own kit an amazing 62 times over the last decade! Frank recommends using White Labs California yeast, WLP001 or Wyeast American, WY1056. Makes 5 gallons Estimated Original Gravity:1.058-62 SRM (Color Range): 7-11 IBUs: 39-42 Estimated Alcohol Percentage: 5.8% Our recipe kits DO NOT include grain bags, yeast or priming sugar. Left Coast Pale Ale by Phil Montalbano | 5 Gallon Beer Recipe Kit | Extract
Our Signature Series kits offer a selection of crazy, unique beers developed by MoreBeer! customers, associates, and homebrewing legends! Enjoy the citrus/orange hop character Amarillo® hops impart on to this thirst-quenching Pale Ale Includes 100% Amarillo® hops Estimated ABV: 5.3% Estimated IBUs: 50-55 Makes 5 gallons of finished beer Phil created this recipe in an effort to stop his long, slow spiral into fruity, phenolic, sour beers that began to populate his fermenters and kegs back in 1998. Honestly, Phil seriously contemplated throwing gummy bears into his brew and realized it was time to step back, look around, sober up, and grab a classic West Coast pale ale. This beer is dominated by the wonderful Amarillo® hop that is known for having a citrus/orange flavor. The Left Coast Pale has been brewed many times over as a house favorite during the Fermentation Frenzy shop era (Los Altos, CA circa 1997-2007). Try it, you'll like it. And, unfortunately, so will your friends. Phil recommends for an even more pronounced hop nose and flavor you add an additional 1oz of Amarillo® hops to the fermenter as a dry hop addition (not included with kit).
