Morgan's Rye Beer (Mini Mash) KIT801
Morgan Cox of E.J. Phair Brewing Company, Concord, California.
Morgan has been homebrewing since the tender age of 18 until he got his fist brewing job at local E.J. Phair, our next door neighbors, in September of 2001. Since then, Morgan has been consistently formulating beers with a more balanced, focused attention to malt than most "Hop Coast" breweries. In 2004 he brewed four medal winners - one Gold and three bronze - in the California State Fair. At the newly opened E.J. Phair Alehouse, Morgan has about 6-10 of his beers on tap at all times, and is expanding his line-up when he can. The brewery recently celebrated their 5 year anniversary and upgraded from their 7 barrel brew house all the way up to a 15 barrel system! Quite a jump, but both JJ and Morgan know there is a big demand for their tasty beers. As regulars, we could not agree more.
Morgan's Phat Quail recipe was such a hit that we asked him for a second one. Lucky for us, he agreed. This Rye Beer is a smooth beer that has a touch of spicyness from the rye, which balances out the hops and malt nicely. Dark brown in color with a great hop nose, this is one beer that will keep you coming back for more. If you are ever in Concord, stop by the Alehouse and have a pint or two and compare. Or bring one by and have Morgan try it out- you can catch him either at the Brewery during the day, or a few times a week at the Alehouse after work for "Quality Control". Morgan recommends using White Labs English Ale Yeast, WLP002. This is a Mini-Mash kit.
