They should be planted immediately for best results. The first year crop is usually a lot less than future years. Since these are alive, and unless you have the right climate/soil, etc... you might want to plant more than one of each type to ensure success with growing them.
Here is the hop farms notes on rhizomes.
2008 Hop Rhizome Sale
This year
we will be offering our Hop Rhizome for sale before we receive our shipment of
them.? The supplier expect that
they will ship to us at the end of March but it is impossible to put a date on
that this far out.? Get your orders
in soon.? We have placed a large
order for them but the supplier cannot guarantee they will all be filled.
Orders placed before we receive them:
We will
have the rhizomes on sale for $4.50 each on orders that are received before we
get them in stock.? These orders
will not ship till the rhizomes are in and inspected, and can only have
rhizomes on them.? This will allow
the orders placed before they are in stock to ship immediately to help ensure
the best success in growing them.
Orders after they are received in stock:
Once in
stock, the rhizomes will sell for $5.00 each until they run out.? At that point they can be combined with
any items in an order.
Shipping Restrictions:
Due to
agricultural restrictions, we only ship rhizomes to addresses that are in the
United States, except Hawaii, Washington, and the counties of Bonner and
Kootenai in Idaho.? Unfortunately,
we cannot ship these to international locations including APO/FPO addresses.
More Information:
There is no
Minimum Order on Rhizomes, we recommend buying two of each type to help ensure
their success.? We inspect each
rhizome when they arrive and when they are shipped out, but unfortunately,
cannot guarantee they will grow.?
However, in the past our customers have had great success in growing
them.?
We
recommend planting them within a few days of receiving them, if your area is
still experiencing frost then you can plant them in a planter in doors until
it’s safe to transplant out doors.
