The last brand new conical with our old design! We built one too many of our fantastic Heated and Cooled conicals before we re-vamped them, and now you can win off of our mistake! This is not a pressurizable conical like our current ones, but is still a wonderful deal on a great piece of equipment!
The included Dual-Controller will simultaneously control both the cooling unit and the heater. A 40 watt heater is wrapped around the cone, between the stainless conical and the insulation, and has no contact with the beer.
We added the heating after years of experience with our externally cooled conicals. When a ferment starts, heat is generated by the yeast as they ferment. This heat is actually retained by the foam insulation. For this reason, the cooling will often be needed to maintain your set-temperature, even during winter time. However, as the ferment begins to slow down and as the reading on your hydrometer drops close to 1.020, heat will stop being generated by the yeast and the ferment will eventually cool to ambient (room) temperature. If the ambient temperature is cooler than the temperature range your yeast will work in, the yeast will drop out of solution. The end result is a beer with a higher residual gravity and an overly sweet flavor. With the built-in heater option this never happens because the heater kicks on to maintain your set-temperature until fermentation is 100% complete.
