Why do you only carry two liquid malt extracts? Because freshness is key. If you want to make an amber or dark beer style, it is better to use a technique of steeping the malts (like steeping tea) to change the flavor yourself instead of buying the darker malt extracts that do not turn over as quickly. Our Light Malt extract sell 50 times faster than the amber or dark malt extracts we have sold in the past and after 15 years of selling Malt Extract we know that one of the true secrets to making great beer from extract is to use really fresh Malt Extract.
Handy Malt Extract Conversions:
1 pound of Dried Malt Extract dissolved in one gallon of water = 1.045 SG
1 pound of liquid Malt Extract dissolved in one gallon of water = 1.035 SG
For reference: 10 pounds grain to create 6 gal wort, boiled to 5 gal = 1.050 SG (assuming a 70% efficiency).
