Brewing Water Modifiers

Depending on your water source and style of beer being made, you may want to adjust the mineral/salts content of your brewing water. Adjusting your water can help improve the efficiency of your system as well as changing how soft or focused the malt and hops are in your finished beers.

Where to start?
To decide whether your brewing water could benefit from being adjusted you will need two sources of information; a water report from your municipal water supplier and a good brewing book that explains the basics of brewing water modifications, such as How To Brew by John Palmer. With these in hand you will easily be able to see how your water compares to the various ideal beer waters of the world and can make corrections if needed.
