Description

Unique to MoreBeer!, we offer our Chillus Convolutus Wort Chiller with threaded 1/2" fittings on the in and the out. This make connecting with pipe fittings, qd's or tric-clamp possible. We consider it a must have upgrade on our brewing systems and most customers agree.


The inner tube is made from 12' of 5/8" convoluted (twisted) copper which continually turbulates the wort as it flows through. The outer tube is made from 7/8" copper. The Convolutus counterflow chiller allows you to pump wort through without having to restrict your pump to slow down flow. Use 1/2" line to connect to wort in and out feeds. The water connections are male and female 3/4" hose connections.

10 1/4" height by 11" overall diameter (coils themselves are about 6" in diameter)

I bought one years ago and it worked flawlessly, but it was damaged due to freezing. Replacing it in kind. If you buy one, make sure you keep in a place that won't freeze, or be sure to completely drain it before storage.

Does this model have a mounting bracket?

BEST ANSWER: Mine did. It has a metal bar welded across the top with two mounting holes in it. I have it bolted to a u-channel frame with my RIMS controller and pump.

Pure fab bit of gear
Haven’t used it yet, but it looks the dogs bollocks. I’d happily Polish it and put it in a display cabinet. I suspect it will work wonderfully well too,.. it comes with an excellent recommendation. Pricey, but ye get what ye pay for in this life so you do. It wasn’t easy win as I live in Ireland, but well worth the trouble, and sure the fella I dealt with there at more beer was absolutely top notch.

Save lots of time with the counterflow chiller
I can chill and transfer 10 gallons of wort from the kettle to the fermenter in 10 minutes now. It used to take about 1:15 to chill, stir and let settle, then transfer to the fermenter. I am saving an hour or more now on the brew day by pumping through this chiller to the fermenter. Saves time and quite a bit of water down the drain vs. my immersion chiller. Now it will be a pre-chiller sitting in a bucket of ice water in the summer months.

Great Replacement for a Plate Chiller
Replaced a plate chiller that consistently plugged at the start of transfer to fermenter. Better flow, lower pumping losses, whirlpooled through this for about 15 minutes before filling the fermenter. Wort was nice and cool by the time I pitched the yeast. Definitely recommend a counter flow heat exchanger over a plate type. I know it is clean and will flow every time without the need for ridiculous back flushing schemes.

Works great
This replaced my copper immersion chiller. I added quick disconnects for my hoses and connected it to a pump to recirculate the wort through the kettle. Tap water was about 61F and it got five gallons down to 63F in about fifteen minutes.

I liked having the setup with the lid closed, since I was previously unable to put a lid on the kettle with the lid closed. So I could pretty much just get it running and leave it alone for a few minutes.

I need to work on a technique to get the wort drained out of it when its done, since it seems like it holds a fair amount.

Very solid piece of metal art. I noticed the attached bracket has holes that line up with the holes in the frame of the BrewBuilt Afterburner that I also purchased from MoreBeer. So I'll also work on a method to attach that but still be able to remove it easily for cleanup.

Amazing
Depending on the input water temp, this thing is amazing. Rapidly take boiling temp wort to pitching temps.

I warmer weather our tap water isn't very cold. I migrate this problem by chilling 20 gallons of water with ice and feeding the ice chilled water into the counterflow chiller.

Remember, cold water should move faster than the hot wort thru the chiller.

Also, heed the instructions about not over tightening the nuts. Don't ask me how I know.

Works Like A Champ!
I actually have two of these in tandem on a stainless steel stand that I made. Ground water here in Florida is warm so I use ground water in one chiller to get down to 90 degrees and then run ice water through the other chiller and I get down to lager temps with no problem. I can get down to ale temps anywhere from 60 to 65 degrees with two bags of ice and very quickly. Great product and I use tri clamp fittings for both the pipe thread and garden hose thread ends with no leaks!

Pretty fantastic chiller and super easy to clean
Fantastic counterflow chiller. I have two connected together to improve chill time as I brew 1BBL batches. Easy to clean and quick to chill, not sure a better product exists for the cost. Oh and plate chillers suck.

Immersion Chiller to Counterflow Chiller
5 stars for sure. This is very easy to use and keep sanitized. Nothing against a immersion chilling but this is way more user friendly.
