By far the easiest and most common method to chill the wort after boiling. We notch the lid of the kettle so that you can cool with the lid closed to keep airborne bacteria out. Pros ? Safe from Contamination, Effective, Easy to maintain. Least Expensive Cons ? Slow, High Water Usage, not good if you are pumping wort from boil kettle.
