Aeration Partial System

Description

Aerating your wort leads to faster, healthier fermentation, and that means better beer! Stop lifting and shaking carboys to try to introduce oxygen for your yeast--smart brewers use the right tool for the job.

Our aeration system (FE380) comes with an inline filter, stainless steel diffusion stone, and tubing. This kit does not include the air pump. Most aquarium style air pumps will work; we recommend a deep water pump.

About the inline filters: There are two sides to the filter - an "in" and an "out". The direction you use doesn't matter, however, you want to take note of which way you first push air through it and always keep it that way. There is an arrow on the edge of the filter housing that we use to keep the airflow going one direction when using it. The filter should never get wet, so don't try and sanitize it by dunking it in sanitizer. If you want to clean the outside of it, use Alpet D2. To store the filter, use a little tinfoil on the ""In"" of the filter and store in a zip-lock bag. Can last up to 1 year. Discard if there are any signs of discoloration.

The stone is attached to semirigid polyethylene tubing temp rated from -40°F to 140°F.

STORE DRY AT ALL TIMES. DO NOT SANITIZE FILTER.

What type of tubing connects to the stone?

BEST ANSWER: It is a strong but flexible poly tubing that retains its shape in the one the picture shows. Mine does not have identifying writing on it so not sure what size or material exactly. Seems to work fine to get the stone to the bottom of a carboy.

Just ok for the price
Used mine for the first time. Stone and tubing are great, however the smaller tube is too small for all 4 of my air pumps I have, and the small tube itself is just inserted into the big one, not sealed or anything, so it easily slides right out. Ended up just putting the bigger tube over the air outlet on my pump. Doesnt seal completely but does the job i suppose.

(fyi i have 2 aquaeon pumps and two tetra pumps, pretty much the exact same it shows in the complete setup picture)

The ultimate tool for a fast start
I use this hooked up to an aquarium pump. It only takes about 5 minutes of aeration to get the job done. Since switching to this (from the bucket-shake method), I've seen all of my fermentations start in 12 hours or less regardless of yeast strain, pitching temp or gravity.

It is also pretty much the most high-maintenance piece of brewing gear I own. I have to boil it before and after to keep the stone sanitized.

Give your yeats oxygen
I use my hooked up to a medical oxygen bottle with a regulator. 60 seconds of oxygen before you dump in the yeast works perfect
