The Wort Chiller
Wort Chillers are an essential beer making tool used to cool boiling wort down to a temperature at which you can safely add beer yeast, around 60-80F. However, once the cooling wort reaches temperatures of 130F and cooler there are some bacteria and wild yeast that can survive. The quicker you as a home brewer can cool the wort, the less time there is for possible air-borne organisms to contaminate your beer.
A MoreBeer! Wort Chiller is the ideal tool to quickly cool your boiled wort and avoid contamination! We have the largest selection of Wort Chillers to choose from, and we manufacture all of our Immersion Wort Chillers right here in our California metal shop. We also take other quality wort chillers from Blichmann engineering and elsewhere and add fittings that make them functional right out of the box. Also don't forget that all wort chillers over $59 will qualify for free shipping to the lower 48 states!
Immersion vs. Counterflow Wort Chillers
Immersion chillers are immersed into your boil towards the end, and then have cold water run through them to cool your wort down. Counterflow and plate chillers are actually an external chiller that you pump your wort through. As your wort flows in one direction, you push cold water through a separate channel in the opposite direction, essentially transferring your wort to the fermenter while cooling it. Counterflow chillers are generally more efficient than immersion chillers, simply because you are focusing the cooling to a much smaller volume at a time.
